4TB m.2 from Crucial were £140ish and £155ish for the P3 and P3plus respectively during the Amazon Prime days summer sale.
I chickened out because not in need for extra storage upgrade for my PCs.

I just bought an SN850X 2TB for 134 CAD
Me too..... Well I bought it for $155 and got $20 gift card when I complained that the price went down right after I bought it. But crazy, isn't it?

Good. I wouldn't buy a qlc ssd when tlcs are this cheap.

My SN850X compared to 980 pro, latter has advantage of being on CPU routed lanes as well. The 980 pro is 1TB, SN850X 2TB.

WD did reply to my complaint about their store, I noticed it days later, they did offer to price match Amazon, but told them I already purchased from Amazon so no worries.

so this issue is less prevalent on AMD boards (in particular: B/X-series)?
Yes, the extra lanes help them a lot. The closest i've seen is the final physical x16 slot (4x electrical) can be shared with a third NVME slot, or between all 1x slots on a board - this is why most of them dont include that final slot anyway.

QLC, not worth the risk.
Eh, depends on the drive and it's intended usage. For an OS drive i'd not use TLC or QLC, but years ago we also said to never use MLC or TLC, yet you can't even buy SLC anymore.

Interesting, check this out, its the sn850x vs the netac nv7000 ( the totally obscure chinese brand). Both 2TB. I expected WD to dominate but they are almost trading blows.

The Netac is on the cpu lanes. But on the other hand, its also partitioned out and half full where as the WD doesn't have a file on it so... not really a fair match up I guess :p

looks good!

I haven't heard of Netac before so ran a quick search - looks like TPUs covered it already with a big thumbs up and zero negatives (except high price which stands true a year-later based on amazon listings): https://www.techpowerup.com/review/netac-nv7000-2-tb-m-2-nvme-ssd/

@iameatingjam Interesting your chipset lanes SN850X is outperforming mine notably % wise in single threaded 4k, same file test size as well.

Must be a regional thing, I bought it last year because it was the cheapest gen 4 ssd with dram that I could find. Right now on amazon.ca its $140 CAD or according to google conversion, 82 gbp. (for 2TB)

I´d say "Game Mode" on.
That could be it.

Don't forget that where the drives are connected matters too, direct CPU lanes make them perform faster than on chipset lanes - and these are HBM drives, so RAM performance speeds some tasks up, especially low latency

Which drives are hmb? The sn770? I guess we've wandered off topic a bit. Afaik the nv7000, 980 pro, and the sn850x all have their own dram. And in the case of the sn850x, both were on chipset lanes. I've heard of game mode doing weird things. @chrcoluk hasn't gotten back to us yet as to whether he's using it or not.

I am using whatever the default is, I havent yet installed WD's software. Drive is still empty.

Installed the dashboard now, gaming mode 2.0 is off.

Hmmm yeah I really don't know what that would be then, perhaps something to do with the cpu or motherboard? Anyway, I'm sure it's not enough that you'd notice in real life usage.

I'm debating between Solodigm P44 Pro 2TB and SN770 2TB for my new gaming drive, SN770 2TB is $84 USD, and P44 Pro 2TB is $99 USD... which would you go with? I am leaning towards the P44 Pro 2TB... technically I don't need it, but the price is so dang good, eh.

I just got a 2tb sn770 for my game drive, it's been great, I'm getting a 500GB one for a boot drive.

I have a 500gb one for my boot drive too. but at $99 I think I am going to go with the P44 Pro 2, cause I plan to move to Linux someday permanently, and the controller on the SN770 only gives boosted speeds in Windows.

edit: I just realized I answered me own question, RIP me.

I'm biased against drives without dram. But I would say the Solodigm P44 Pro for sure. Why settle for middle of the road when the difference is only $15?

only reason I even considered it is because my sn770 has treated me so damn well, and its snappy as heck.

It's a bit bigger difference for me, it costs the same for a 512gb P44 Pro as a 1TB SN770.

I have a couple SN770 1TB in my rig for storage, they are good. I have a 1TB SN770 as a boot drive in my sons rig, it feels pretty good. Better than the SN750 500GB that was in it before..

It's a bit bigger difference for me, it costs the same for a 512gb P44 Pro as a 1TB SN770.
No judgement man. Prices are always changing in place and time. Whats a great deal one day is a terrible deal the day next day and vice versa. All the sn850x's original reviews complain about its price, then all of a sudden its was the cheapest thing you could buy.

sn850x is 20 more than p44 pro and scores less in 4k iops where I live, so 44 pro is a win win for me.

I am too chicken to break away from WD, I have been using them since forever, and I think I even have the original 64GB WD Blue kicking around somewhere..

The time I broke away to run a 120GB RevoDrive, it died within a year or so. Then I tried Intel and really like them, have a few of their SSDs kicking around.. and I tried a Crucial and it died.

Bleh. I should ask my buddy if he still has the original G.Skill 64GB SSD.. I lent it to him like 15 years ago.. have not heard from him lately
