What resolution will you be playing at? If your going with 1680x1050 then go with 2 4770s. Going with anything bigger? If so then I would go with 1 4890 now and another later on.

but only has 512mb of ram. Gonna be a huge bottleneck with newer games at higher resolutions.

I wouldn't be suprised if an intelligent video card maker builds a 1GB HD4770 card.

Based on what i have seen the HD4770 is a winner right now.

Makes no sense to buy 4770 X-Fire over a single 4890. You will not notice the difference in power in games that actually use X-Fire properly and games that do not will give the win to the 4890. If you are gonna spend the $$$ spend it right and get the 4890.

I just don't see how the 4770 would be the winner, that is if it's 2x 4770 vs 1x 4890. CF performance isn't at 100% it never scales perfect. And the upgradability is horrible compared to 1x 4890. It would be a clear choice to me to get the 4890, not saying the 4770's are bad, but if you got the mobo to CF and the budget for a 4890 now then thats the best choice.

i agree, and would have to say go HD 4890, though xfire solution is slightly more power, the HD 4890 is plenty for games at 1680x1050 right now plus as mentioned you can upgrade that to xfire down the road which would be killer performance.

Well... if you think about going Xfire with Toxic HD4890 that is a total of 28 pins of power.

I guess it's not a problem if your PSU is up for the job.

if i were buying a new gpu, i would consider any card using less than 1gb to be unsuitable for future games...

it depends upon weather your someone that likes to play the latest games with all the eye candy turned up....
