2x Sapphire Vega64 Nitro+ (crossfire) . 1000w enough.

Hi guys,

Wanted to grab some opinions, managed to get a second Vega 64 cheap so can run in Crossfire, naturally my 850w XFX black isn't enough, however I've ordered a Seasonic 1000w Platinum CPU,

Can anyone confirm if this is good enough? I can't confirm, specs to work with are

Asus Z97 Sabertooth MK1
Intel 4790k running 4.6ghz
Corsair H100i
2x HDD
1x SSD

I can't see 1000w not being enough but I'd welcome thoughts

It's probably enough. But I definitely wouldn't go with anything less. In fact I wouldn't even be 100% comfortable with anything less than 1200W. But that's just me. I'm sick and tired of killing PSUs prematurely with high watt GPUs. I barely feel safe with a 1000W PSU and my single Vega 64. And it's got a 10 year warranty.

Well absolutely flat out best bench mine pulls upto 630 watts total but typically max gaming stable (Gpu) clocks it doesn't get near 500 so he should be fine bar absolute max bench runs, possibly.

Just don't forget to undervolt both vegas finding good spot and you will get 100-150W less consumption and relieved PSU.

I am running a heavily overclocked RX Vega64 Liquid and an X399 system(180-200W CPU)... on an 850W Seasonic X Series. Fan doesn't even turn on when gaming. Its a slow 300ish RPM when running CPU and GPU @ 100% doing F@H.

That said... a GOOD 550W PSU will do OK for a Ryzen AM4 with a stock system, no OC.
750W is recommended for heavy OC's on single GPU and CPU.
850W is OK for dual cards but if its not a quality PSU.. don't OC. (Example- My X Series 850W is known for being able to handle 900-950W for short periods as the components are overbuilt for what it is)

1000W is for more along the lines of, dual cards, 200W CPU, 6+ fans, 4+ storage drives etc..

A single one. The OP is talking about running two of them. FWIW, my 3930k and my 390 together (with only the 3930k overclocked,) will pull 650w off the wall. If I were still running Windows and I was getting two Vega 64s, I would be hesitant to use a 1000w PSU. I probably would have almost no overhead to overclock anything. The 4970k should be light enough for it to work but, I wouldn't be surprised if the OP saw 800-watts off the wall at least under full load.

Thank you for reading properly the OP is my friend and Ithat 850 he has barfed as soon as he put some load on it. I’m just unsure if 1000W is enough. His 4790K also has a slight OC on it as well.

Well the TDP of the card is 295w. So surely 600w for the pair, rest of the PC running from 400w.

Okay not much overhead but should be enough.

I got a 1200 personally since I think crossfire might be an option given time, two vegas running typical gaming loads should stay below 900 watts it really is just benchmark runs with clocks that wouldn't game anyway that would push two beyond 1000 . like my one is waterblocked and to hit 650 watts with one requires a top end cpu Oc brushing max and my gpu at 1740/1100mem , like i said though it just about finishes a bench , typical gaming values of 1660@1.18V ,975mem(max game all night clock) it typically uses 4-500 watts total system draw which does leave enough for a second vega If he is not a bencher he's fine ,if he is go 1200.

It all comes down to the current available on the 12V line no good buying 1000W PSU if the 12V rail can only do 25A so check the rating for the 12V rail

That's a solid PSU it's not going to have an issue running two , unless you are trying to bench it to the max imho.
