Judging from the specs you have posted, I'd just say go for the 4x1GB if it's 30% cheaper than the 2x2GB. Unless you want to upgrade in the future to a stronger CPU, then I would say go 2x2GB for sure. Having the ability to upgrade is always nice.

It's probably not a big deal, but some programs will get a speed boost when running Dual Channel.

Judge from your specs, I say just go with the cheaper route.

Memory bandwidth makes a huge difference if you are using integrated graphics, especially with AMD processors. If you are using integrated graphics, I would highly recommend the 2 x 2GB, but if you have a add-in graphics card, then 1 4GB stick shouldn't affect performance that much.

if you're using the igp 2x2gb will double the bandwidth for it, but what about 2x4gb?

Yes. The more bandwidth that integrated gpu gets the better. Dual channel doubles your bandwidth and the bandwidth starved gpu will eat it up.

Also the practical factthat no one thing of mostly is that if 4 gigs stick die you are left with nothing. If you have only a 2gigs stick remaining you still can roll it.

The Asrock FM2 a55 DGS only has two memory slots. Fill them up and there will be no room for expansion. 4GB is the minimum you want for RAM today, for a new build its already not enough. I would get 1x8GB leaving another slot available for the future.

Dual channel is a no brainer in this case (it really was without this.. a bit perplexed at why anyone would run single on a dual ch box in the first place).

Isn't Windows one of those programs?
