it is possible but what you have to do is go into device manager in whatever OS you have now and write the drivers down on a piece of paper, then goto the manufacturers website and download the XP versions of the drivers. had to do this when i downgraded a bunch of my friends toshiba laptops

Why not install 64 bit OS?

I see. After a quick google it looks like there are Mobility 5470 (32 bit) drivers all over the place.
You should be able to get the chipset drivers from Intel.

checked amd site
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
it shows this for mobility 5xxx series---> Advisory:
The display driver supplied by the laptop manufacturer is customized for the built-in flat panel display, and the graphics features and functions specific to the laptop. It is strongly recommended to use the supplied drivers.

If installing a different operating system other than the one included with the laptop, the laptop may not meet all the requirements, and supported drivers may not be available.

The laptop manufacturer is the exclusive provider of driver updates. If the required driver update is not available at the laptop manufacturers’ website, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer directly, to see if an updated driver will be made available in the future.

AMD cannot provide driver updates directly from AMD.com.

Tried that they will not install. But mayb if you know how to mod the drivers it's a no go most likely.

And whats wrong with Win 7 anyways ?.

I own a 1764

The gfx driver will likely be an issue. Unless Ati made drivers for xp and legacy for it it will likely not work because windows vista implemented a new display driver model that isn't compatible with XP.

The same thing applies to installing win7 on my old laptop the gfx chip is so old that there are no drivers made for it that are compatible with the new driver model of vista/7.

AMD lists 54xx series mobility drivers for Windows 7 32-bit. XP is no longer supported.
