I need a bigger monitor. NOT bigger resolution, bigger size. The reason being is that I sit at a distance from my screen, (about 3 feet) and my current 22" 1680x1050 monitor can be a little hard to read small writing sometimes. Since they dont make big computer monitors with regular resolutions, (1920x1080) I am forced to go down the TV route.

So my questions are; what are the pro's and con's of LED and LCD respectively? A guy at work says that LEDs have ghosting  which I definately don't want. Is this true? But I do love the whole true black thing that LEDs have got going.

Thanks in advance!

I would read results from a search like this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=led+vs+ccfl+lcd

My daily work monitors are LED backlit LCD's. They are nice, but my LG IPS display is superior in image quality. You really need to research the differences though. This stuff is well documented.

I like to use my 42" panasonic TV for occasional ps3/emulator or something like that.

32" HDTV anyday.. Well unless 40" like my own which i love using..

Try find a mat screen so you wont see ya self in the picture in that dark creepy cave in Skyrim lol. Umm only negitive i have had with using a HDTV is house lighting needs to be adjusted. As for ghosting check the HDTV out with some HD ice hocky as if it's going to ghost thats when it's going do it i find.

I have a 27" LG HDTV that runs 1080p and is perfect for gaming.
I have to run BF3 at 1680x1050 though if I want to run ultra.
That is do to my GPU though. I'm about 2 feet from my monitor.
At 3 feet a 32" probably would work great. There is quite a jump
in price going from 720p to 1080p though.

my little sisters room has a 32" LG 720p LCD as the computer monitor and everything works great, and gaming is easier on the graphics cards due to the lower resolution, its a win win win in my book, since 720p tvs are cheap also

the only difference you will have with an LED will be power savings, and it is very unlikely to find a 720p LED TV

LED should last more and be more energy efficient. FullHD is a must if you want to use it as monitor.

LCD and LED have the same 100,000 MTBF. RGB LED have better color and don't have problems with dimming or color shifting but only the expensive televisions use them. LED televisions usually have problems with blooming and flashlighting.

I don't know your budget but what about a 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 panel? It's more comfortable to have a bigger resolution if you are going to stand closer to your screen, atleast for me

Philips 32" LED HDTV 1080p is amazing! I will never go back to computer monitors!

Also, it has this ambilight technology which is fantastic for when you want to relax and watch movies with the lights off or games with the lights off! It's truely outstanding!

Also it's 100Hz which helps smooths the frame rate when watching TV/Movies or when you use your console!

Check out this video:

I got it on ebay almost a year ago for 300 Euro! Bargain!

Not sure im familiar with thise last two terms. Care to elaborate? :toast:

But I'm further from the screen, a high res would make it hard to read stuff on screen.

I wonder which 32" LCD (LED) TV has fast response time for PC gaming.

+1

I would go for LED for power efficiency and brand LG and Samsung is good for me.

This will actually be a big factor as I live in Australia, and the government is about to bring out this massive 'carbon tax' (biggest energy tax in the world if I'm not mistaken), so my elec bills will skyrocket.

Mura (Japanese for unevenness) aka clouding, flashlighting.

Blooming

you shouldn't have to worry about blooming unless you buy a LED television with micro-dimming.

I was upset to hear that the 32" size for tvs is really being phased out. I was able to sit in front of that and game on pc and anything larger was worse. I really need to find a used 32" 1080p tv or two in the next year. I would rather game on 32" 1080p tv for pc games than to use any monitor solution.

btw the 32" tv I had was a Toshiba brand 720p tv ... was a beauty ....

my new tv .. 51" Samsung 3D Plasma tv 1080p
