Following in the footsteps of the OLPC project an nonprofit group that designs low-cost computers for poor children stated that they may start selling $350 laptops on the commercial market by Christmas. The entry of this 350$ in the commercial market is bound to cause problems to the traditional PC industry companies, including Microsoft, Dell , Hewlett-Packard Co. and Lenovo Group Ltd.

unless these laptops are of a decent spec i cant see them making much of a dent in sales.

Never be suprised by the desires of people. I think these will probably sell fairly well at least at first regardless of specs. There are a lot of people out there that would own a laptop if they were cheaper.

On another note . . . what is the control of these devices. Buy and ship 50 of them to Al-Qaeda ?? Who says they need to be fast for communication and propaganda.

Well i for once if i had a young daughter or son at the age of 12-13 i would buy them one :)

Yea, then they would hate you for buying such a piece of shart, when their best friend got the new SSD alienware and is having a blast playing Crysis. Even a 5 year old would hate this thing.

oh yea. almsot all the large corporates use lenovo thinkpad series laptop.
I my self work in bear stearns as a helpdesk support every laptop we have in my company are thinkpads, unless the user request for MACBOOk to do different type of work. or Sony laptop for personal use.

I believe my parents' company is making a switch to HP. However I still see both my parents have lenevo's (actually they're IBM's not Lenevo). So idk...I think they're switching, or maybe only desktops are.

lenovo bought out IBM laptop department couple years ago. all new thinkpad series have lenovo label on it as well as IBM

I think new lenoovs only have the lenvo sticker on them. My dad still has an intel centrino processor and my mom's newest laptop is a core duo. They're last gen, so yeah IBM not lenovo.

IBM they dont even supports Thinkpad laptop anymore. if you search for laptop support under IBM. they will redirect you to lenovo web site.

the first year thinkpad release the laptop with IBM label on it because americans never heard of lenovo brand, and now they are releasing it with their label on it since their brand are being know now in america.

i work with lenovo Thinkpad laptop everyday so i know what im talking about heh

Actually yes. I bought two of them when they first released their consumer brand. Top models I got for less than $500 a piece shipped thanks to their introductory rebates. Both my parents are happy and I didn't have to spend a fortune : )
