I just noticed something,

when I lay my 360 down, it won't overheat and I can play it with no problem, when I stand my 360 up it will overheat on boot,

I'm guessing that confirms the xclamps are loose right

Debating when the best time to buy a new one is. I'm only buying for Forza 3 and debating about playing borderlands on it or the PS3.

Forza is/was good, but i still think GT5 is going to be better.

Personally, I never stand my 360 upright as its just asking for trouble . I think the thermal paste runs when it gets too hot because all the warm air accumulates at the top of the case instead of being sucked out of the rear vents and this causes the system to overheat

If you get anymore problems, replace the X-Clamps with bolts & washers and renew the thermal paste with some MX-2 anyway

All you need to do is make sure you pick up a Jasper console
