these cards are awesome, w1z's review shows that enuff. apart from a few benchies, the card stomps on NV's offerings in virtually every game/benchmark.

this looks very promising for upcoming cards.

Im gonna hold out till at least dx11 cards are out, as for now my meager 2900xt will see me well.

but what a price!! price/performance this is better than Nvidia *ATM*

Nice list of benchmarks, EastCoast! :rockout: They're pretty much all the ones that I like to check when new hardware comes out, so I have all of them on my favorites, but it's just easier to click on your links than navigating through the tabs, ;). Is there any other reliable site anyway?

About the card. After reading most of the benchmarks I have to say that sadly, it's a big dissapointment for me. Although not as fast as I thought it would be, on performance level it delivers, there isn't any big issues there. But (and a big one for me) 3870 Crossfire is almost as fast, if you OC them to same clocks of course, and 8800GT SLI is a lot faster. So it all comes to how much they cost. Sadly, around here the card costs as much as 2 3870 and searching a bit you can have 2 8800GTs for little more. Anyway that's not an issue, it depends on the country and prices will go down.

What is the biggest dissapointment is that it consumes a lot more than 3870 Crossfire!!:eek::eek: How can this happen?
The noise level is unacceptable for me too and seems that the second chip is a bit hot, it's not cooled as well as the other. And I'm not really sure that you can use any aftermarket cooler for this card. I haven't searched the web about this anyway, since I am not interested. I would never buy this card as it is now. If they fix noise levels, power consumption, and heat on the second chip, I will think of it again. Right now for me this card is as useless as 8800Ultra. In favor of the 3870 X2 I have to say that it's with difference the better dual GPU card ever. Sadly, this is because all the others were a waste IMO.

EDIT: Before replying to this post take into account this is MY opinion. Also that I don't care about 3DMark or QuadCrossfire. I only care about gaming smoothly on acceptable resolutions. Of course right now this card is the fastest one (by a small margin), so I know it's a great value for benhmarking enthusiast, so if you are one of them avoid trying to discuss with me couse we are not looking for the same things.

I've done a lot of reading this morning so forgive me if I forget anything. A few reviews stand out:

-Tech Power Up: noting that techincally this is not a PCIe 2.0 video card as thought
-The Tech Report: discusses X2 vs CF vs GT SLI
-Driver Heaven: Made notes regarding the lower then average min frame rates from 3 games. They believe it's either because:
A. driver issue
B. ATI teams needs to work with developers more often

-Hardware Canucks: Offers both X2 vs CF and shows that aftermarket cooler does not fit

We may see yet another driver update called 1.3v

B. ATI teams needs to work with developers more often

or developers need to stop being paid so much for "how its meant to be played" adverts..

having seen examples of one 3870 card in crossfire mode not even bothering to clock out of 2 d mode and sit there doing absolutely nothings when certain 3d applications are run i now think its the game not the cat drivers..

this is also the reason why one card runs cooler.. its only half working at best..

its just like multiple cpu cores.. if the software aint written to use em they dont get used..

this conclusion is why i aint happy with crossfire.. with one card or with two cards..

Another place selling them (Canada), but they have OC it to 875/960 so you pay a premium of $540 on top of thier (high) priced regular edition.

Hope these prices don't reflect what we can expect to pay in Canada, but it's looking that way:mad:

I'm really surprised by how well this card is doing in reviews, even without an "official" driver yet.

TBH, though, I'm not surprised by how poorly it runs in Crysis, I still think there's something fishy about that, as the Cysis 1.1 patch offered maybe 0-2 FPS increase for ATI cards, and I swear on mine I saw a reduction in IQ at my settings.

Nice compilation of the reviews ECH! :toast:

Depends on the game, IQ settings, and resolution. You should know better than to ask that EC. :)

Yeah, I was trying to drum up conversation about the X2.

It is clearly stated in the bit-tech review why a different setup was chose for the power consumption test:

Bit tech review said:
On top of our graphics performance testing, we have also measured the power consumption of AMD's ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card at both idle and load. For this we used a slightly different test system, in order to keep the system the exactly the same across all of our power consumption measurements.

Be confused no more. Here is a summary of all reviews comparing the 8800GTX to the 3870x2. Overall the 3870x2 wins. Almost unanamous. And the scaling is VERY impressive IMO...

These 2 cards are the same price for the most part. As for the GTS (G92), it is NOT as fast as the GTX by most accounts when running 1680x1050 and above with AA and AF just to clear that up.

These 2 behemoths face off at the $450 price point in most all of the recent reviews. Here's a summary....

3870x2 wins in
COD4
DiRT
Quakewars
HL2:EP2
Oblivion
The Witcher
COH
Call of Juarez
STALKER
Quake 4
Splinter Cell:CT
FEAR
Prey
X3 Reunion.

3870x2 and GTX tie in
Crysis is a give or take depending on settings
Lost Planet DX10 with AA (according to 2 sites)
Unreal Tournament 3
Gears of War

3870x2 loses , but still plays well in...
Tiger Woods
Blazing Angels 2
Lost PLanet 1280x1024
WiC DX10 with AA
Quake Wars by a little at 2 sites
Supcom
Bioshock in DX10 mode according to Firing squad but they use 2 different motherboards to test with.

3870x2 is the superior product at the same price.

Clearly BEATS the 8800GTX - Clearly as in picked by multiple reviewers as the victor if not nearly unanamous.
