Fianlly, i've managed to hit the magic 4.5ghz mark, stable with decent temps.
Voltage is at 1.5v (1.48 real) and temps are 68-71C at load.

And all it took were a few ghetto mods

I Just bought a OCZ fan set for my ram and i tore an old 90mm fan off my ol'hyper TX 2 and attached it it my V8.

Please ignore all the dust as i'm a smoker :shadedshu, i don't have the patience to clean every week

Notice the excellent cable management - all those little bastards have been tactically pushed to the bottom of the case creating better airflow. You can also see the little orange and blue ugly thing attached to the NB, this was to stop me from burning my finger if it accidentally touched it, now i only end up with cuts, as that thing is 7500rpm, much less painful

But seriously, i can't buy any kind of fan controller where i live and my case is so tiny there isn;t a hope of tidying that crap up.

And finally from the front - notice the off placement of the 120mm fan. this is because i used velcro to attach it as i didn't know where to buy cable ties when i put it in (still don;t but i managed to steal a few from a computer shop)

What'd you think? Next i'm going to replace the multicolour 120mm wobbley side exhaust fan with something ...... Then on to a bigger case ..... next maybe WC, i think i'm about as far as i can go on air.

Thanks - Nah it's my 24/7 now. gotta do some more testing. I've been benching at 4.7Ghz @ 1.6v but can't get bench stable over that - voltage only goes up that high and i believe this is about the max my NB can handle.

Crtecha - Thanks - is your Av. from Psyco? man i loved that book

In a state of flux...
And to think I was going to buy a E3110 over the E8400 I got...it appears they dont clock as well or you got a bad one.

Either way..still an impressive OC but the vcore is very high and 24/7 with that many volts is only going to end one way...

Can't believe i didn't notice that.....i'm not a n00b....honest.

1.5v is safe as long as temps are ok....right? i haven;t finished tweaking - I'll try and get it down to 1.45v so long as it stays stable

No, not at all safe. I wouldn't run over 1.4v 24/7 and that's even pushing it.

Damn... Just noticed i put my bottom front fan in backwards too... that's what you get for removing and re-installing too many times.

What could happen to it if i keep it running at 1.5v? i don;t mind a 2yr lifespan even 1yr. I'm not too fond of the idea of it blowing up tho.

I don;t believe 1.5v could do that unless something got superhot or failed. Only thing i;ve read about happening from overvolting the 45nm's is somthing going bust and needing higher voltages for the same clock...... anyway time for some testing.... down to 1.45v

1.38-1.4 is considered the maximum safe value for 45nm chips.

Your CPU may not look like that...this is true...but you wont be doing it any good giving it volts that aren't even safe for a 65nm CPU, never mind the smaller 45nm die.

1.41v is what I use for my max 24/7 clock of 4.25GHz, I usually don't bother and run it at 4GHz with 1.365v; plenty of speed and you can only really use so much when gaming.....4GHz feels plenty fast enough and will allow my CPU to stay alive longer.

Wow 1.5 volts for 24/7 useage i can only see that thing lasting a few months if lucky thats crazy to much volts man get my a frying pan and some eggs lets cook up some eggs before it burns up

when pushing to many volts throguh a CPU it don't matter what the temps are they can only take so much and for a 45NM CPU thats way to much

Don;t have VTT setting in bios so i guess it's at auto. ok, i've rolled it back to 1.42v (real) @ 4.4ghz stable for my 24/7. (TBT)

Benching i'm going to go for more tho, 4.75 isn;t fast enough i need more HWBot points.

oh... another ghetto factor, you can't see it in the phot'os, i had to put selotape on the edge of the ocz cooler to stop it conducting, it actualyy bends the 4580 downwards, touching the back of the PCB, i've already taken one of these cards back i'm trying to keep this one. but it'll bench at 750/1200 :)

Use a normal case screw on the RAM cooler instead of the thumb screw.

I had to do that to mine as it would hit the GTX+ on my P5Q Pro, but I didn't have an issue with the CFI DK P45 I had as the PCI-E slots are slightly lower down. :)

My E5200 lived happily with 3.9Ghz/1.488v for the past seven months or so until today when my Q9650 replaced it (And did an extra 100Mhz on 0.188v less). Now it sits in my spares case alongside a dozen or so CPUs for when I decide to build/OC/bench/mod something.

His voltages surely aren't good for the chip, but I doubt it will fail in a few months. I do agree that even with my previous megavoltage experience, I wouldn't run a chip more expensive that a E5200/E5300 at those volts, though.
