If you have a dual-GPU card such as the HD4580x2 or the HD3870x2, you can run 4 monitors, I did on my friend's Visiontek HD3870x2

but then crossfire goes wonky...

when i used monitors on both my cards, one of two thigns happened: some of the screens turned off, or crossfire turned off (and didnt tell me it was off, performance just went shit)

not sure - i know with AMD (3200/4200) IGP's, they can remain enabled - but you might have issues getting an nvidia GPU and an ATi GPU running at the same time, regardless of any complications with the onboard trying to disable itself when a dedicated card is detected.

Im asking all this because I have a friend that dose stock stuff and he is running 4 monitors with 2 video cards and a single core 3700+ amd I did the 4 monitor setup for him any its really laggy and its most likly because of his cpu any way would a cheap video card reduce his performance and make things laggy also

if you use 2 half decent video cards you shouldnt have any problems with performance with just 2D work (as long as its not too cpu intensive)

any cards such as 8600 / 9600 gtx250, 4770 5750/70
should all be more then powerful enough

using really cheap cards with muti monitors is not a good idea if you have visuals such as AREO + High resolution... the card will just crap out ... you effectly have 3360 x 2100 Resolution per a graphics card running 2 monitors at 1680 x 1050 (common mid range resolution.) if your looking to use crossfire with muliple monitors i would look at getting a 58XX or 57XX series ATI graphics card. if i understand it correctly Eyefinity should make things work smoothly.

Sorry if this dosnt help you as its not really info to help with your original question but rather a solution to your problem that will cost money.

You might as well buy a second dirt cheap graphics card.
