4690k and H81M-A adventures!

Alright guys, so my girlfriend's desktop died overnight on her Gigabyte H81, and while everything else was okay the board is completely gone. It was almost funny as the chip was thermal throttling off the turbo clocks down to 3.5-3.6ghz so the board wasn't even stressed. Thanks stock cooler and dry paste.

So I slapped everything onto my Asus H81M-A, put on a 212 EVO in a push-pull, and clocked to 4ghz all cores, 1.2v, 55c max stress. Nice!

Now I'm wondering how far can I go on that board? Safe limit? Max voltage? I doubt temps will be an issue with the cooler and I want to get her chip to around 4.3-4.4ghz like my 4790k.

I should probably add board temps.

For 4.4, I would not recommend passing 1.3V really on air, this will keep noise levels down and reasonable temperatures, The max safe daily voltage sits at 1.4V.

Might be helpful to see the VRM layout to get a good estimate on the max current throughput.

The board doesn't have any VRM temperature sensors (based on the hwinfo screenshot and an at distance glance at the VRM) and you will probably need to put quite a bit of airflow over the VRM as well if you want to do close to 100w package power.

I think you could get that 4.4ghz from it. Would run active cooling (fan) on the VRM package area for sure.

Got to 4.2 with 61c being the hottest core. I tweaked fan settings since you can't hear the cpu or gpu fans over the case fans. 73w on the package so maybe a little more?

I would be more worried about the VRM temps than the CPU...
