4850 powerplay is killing me!

ok so my 4850 iceq4 has stock 650 clocks and powerplay clocks it to 160!!! this causes win media player and the such to crash the computer what exactly can I do to stop this. i know i can edit the bios but honestly I really dont want to do that. is there another way??

yep cpu runs at 3.6 for 24/7 (untill i get my new board this nvidia board blows) pci-e bus clocked at 104 manually. i think powerplay is clocking down to low and media player causes a little bit of gpu load but not enought to clock it up but just enough to be to much for the 160 powerplay clocks. the bsod information is atidmag.sys so i know its the card. but in 3d load like games benches etc it runs like a dream

Why not use Winamp instead of crummy WMP?

mmm i dont think that MP uses GPU acceleration.. it uses moar CPU and power play isn´t a conflict with this kind of software.. Catalyst driver version?

cat is 9.12 cpu is super stable intel burn test maximu stable same with the ram. while watching gpu-z the problems with media player happen when the gpu flickers from powerplay clocks to 3d clocks and back. thats why i though that. psu is stable idk this just barely started happening like yesterday and today i dont get it

ok, did you install the Cat. 9.12 HOTFIX? or the 9.12 common driver (the hotfix r like 100 megs.) in my case, the normal cat. 9.12 r giving me Blue screens of death when i play a game

That is interesting, my IceQ4 Turbo only go as far as 500/1000. :confused:

It causes the system to rapidly change GPU and memory clocks thus leading to a hardlock from which the GPU cannot recover.

Use CCC to create a profile for desktop use and force 500/993 clocks, then edit your prifiles.xml file to force the stock clocks to that and the GPU voltage to 1158 under the "voltage want" area on all profiles.

you should be able to adjust powerplay clocks so it doesnt adjust way too far down

Edit: OH I FORGOT! be sure to do a CLEAN INSTALL of this Hotfix, uninstall normal Cat. 9.12, clean the registry, reboot and install this. Very important!

You should be able to use RivaTuner or Ati Tray Tools to create profiles for the card, or just edit the profile in question(the 160mhz one) to use a little bit more voltage so it doesn't crash.

Well, he might have missed my post so I don't know. I only use Winamp for audio, I use VLC or the KMPlayer for video.
