Man that thing wiped the floor with the 280.. I want one for tri fire :D
In what, Vantage?

In any application (and there's not many) where Crossfire can be applied (and the scaling is never over 80% or even close to that), a single 4870 is not that far behind a 4870 X2.

So for the majority of games, a single 4870 or GTX 280 is plenty fine for most people vs a 4870 X2.

And once again, in the only title that even 'needs' a dual GPU solution, Crysis, the 4850 X2 falls down just the same way the 4870 X2 does.

One might assume it's there to phase out the single 4870, but why bother when it doesn't fit the performance gap in a proper ratio? Referring to the Crossfire comments above, there is no even separation between a single 4870 and a X2 version. It's pretty much whether Crossfire works or doesn't. Otherwise the 4850 X2 version is just some retarded(dumbed-down) version of the X2. i.e. GTX 260 vs 280. But in the 260/280 case, one is more budget based, the other is 'top end.'

If the single 4870 is a budget performer, and the X2 'top end,' wth is a 4850 X2? 'Top end budget?'

I seriously have no idea what the purpose of this card is.

It's either defeating the purpose of the 4870, or defeating the purpose of the 4870 X2.

no AMD should give us money for trying their new technology, 2 gpu's on one board ,
That makes me wonder does w1zz get to keep all those cards ? or does he pass them on to other reviewers.

Its to shove nvidia into a corner.

damn, I was hopin to get a palit for my next card but it looks like I'll be sticking with Sapphire.

+1 to Sapphire for being on the leading edge
I think Sapphire are the leading ATI partner, if that is the case they may well be 1st in line. Any idea when these are due to hit the shelves?

Techpower [sic] has to be sponsored by nvidia, this site posts the worsts [sic] X2 reviews i've seen, and what the hell, a 50 cant [sic] be better that [sic] a 70, something doesnt [sic] smell right
all our reviews express only the opinion of the reviewer. if you are not happy with the conclusion, look at the data yourself and come to your own conclusion. i was suprised to see the 4850 x2 beat the 4870 x2 myself (in higher resolutions). that's why i retested the 4870 x2 with the same drivers on the same rig, everything the same. results are consistent and reflected in the review.

i have always been sceptical about multi-gpu solutions being sold as "one card" from any manufacturer. i honestly believe that this is not the optimum way to go for multiple reasons you can find the in the review.

do you have any evidence from other sites that our benchmark results are incorrect?

the main reason the card got such a bad conclusion score is that the fan noise is EXTREMELY annoying. by the way the conclusion score is just a little number that i feel is right. you should read the whole review (and all reviews from other sites) and then come up with your own number and then decide if you want to buy the product or not.

if you still don't like what you see here at tpu then click the little X in the top right corner and move on.

Lol, your critising the reviewer for saying in high resolutions it's the best card ATi have got and beats the 4870x2, then in the same breath you say he works for NVidia........

I love my 4870x2. Got it at a great deal from a great guy and... the card runs great! Even if I had the choice then of getting a 4870x2 or a 4850x2 I would have gone with the 4870x2 because of the sideport that will be opened up in the future.

And at your resolution the 4870x2 is faster anyway.

11.5 inches! That's freaking long! It's pretty much neck and neck with the GTX280 in terms of performance.
My AAlchemy 8164 8x VSA100 (Voodoo5 chip) is 14.5" heh

Dude, nice find! Sounds like the GTX 280 is in a dead heat with ATi's second best card on the market!
Man that thing wiped the floor with the 280.. I want one for tri fire :D
I just checked out the Driver Heaven review, and the 4850x2 didn't do NEARLY as good as in this review O_O Hell, it didn't ever beat the GTX280 by but a couple frames twice heh

4870X2 is still the king of VGA, no doubt about it

Now one thing 4850X2 has in its favours, dual fan and 4 DVI, but i would rather see cooper heatsinks they are better and look the best
Do you put a lot of store in those reviews? Firstly, Hardware secrets review covers just 4 games I think, compare that with how many games W1z tests on, then look at UT3 test at 1900 resolution, it says that a 9800GTX is faster than the 4870x2, 4850x2, 9800GX2, GTX 280 etc etc and you question whether in some tests the review here shows the 4850x2 beats the 48790x2!

Also, if you look carefully, in the links you posted, in some tests the 4870x2 gets beat by the 4850x2 ???????

(ok this last part. I looked and found UT3 and HL2, no comments - good games - but again no comments)

Yes i see that, there are some tests a 9800gtx can do better than other high end cards, but this is because the games graphics engine is not always perfect, the UT3 engine is really light and optimized a card like a 9800GTX can sure take it to the max. I don't care if a 9800GTX can beat my card in say FAR CRY 1 for god sakes! I always look for vantage and new game releases, instead of old games. If i was interested in old games i wouldn't had upgraded from a 8800GT

And about wiz review, look at his test setup, 2GB? 3.6Ghz? 700WPSU? I smell bottleneck. And to say that a 4850X2 is better than a 70 even if the results are well within a margin of error?
Just look at benchmarkreviews testsetup, that a rig of respect

And in other subject, nice Q9650 over, and on air... me wants one now
