Have a Visiontek 4870/512mb reference design card... first, I love it! Used it for a grand total of 4-5 hours so far - way impressed. Last night experimented with Autotune overclocking in CCC 8.8. Got some good results.

The profile .XML file set to a idle fan speed of 40% (yea, a little annoying, but idle temps around 45c)

BIOS is stock - no other mods, stock cooler.

Autotune results (drum roll):

GPU: Ran AutoTune and it climbed to 790 (the max in CCC) on the core, stayed there and then backed to 780. It moves in 10mhz increments.

MEM: The memory then climbed to 1100 (the max in CCC), stayed there and then backed to 1090. It moves in 10mhz increments.

Question: is it coincidence that Autotune backed it one notch from the "limit", or does it do that by design. Surprisingly, the temp reading never went above 68c at any point. I'm curious if this card has more potential, or did I hit it here.

^ Wow, that's impressive! I guess the question was if Autotune would put the clocks at the stock limits if everything was passed. It seems like it placed the GPU and MEM just one notch down from the stock limits...

Does it do this by default, or is my card indeed limited to 780/1090 according to the CCC test?

Isn't the fan loud at 100%? And I would expect fan failure if you used it at full speed for an extended period of time. Also I think your PC would fly out the window.

If CCC backs of at 10 It's got more room. CCC finds the fastest stable and puts your speed just under that, so you could probly give it that extra 10mhz at the moment unless you feel like using 3rd party software or flashing your bios to push it even further.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
Your fan won't fail from running 100%. Yes it probably will be loud, but if you have your system tweaked out and running for benchmarks do you really care?

It won't fly out the window, but will double as a hair dryer or space heater.

that's normal ^___~

I would put an after market cooler on there before i start messing with the bios.

Accelero if you don't want noise (stick a 120mm fan on it and it drops 10C on load over just passive) << ( just saw you have the 4870 not 4850 haha Accelero passively won't work... but accelero twin turbo should)
Duorb if you want some noise(less noise than stock cooler) and some blue led in the case.

So true, I have my 4850 fan running at 100% and it does well. Its loud, but it runs my OCs well. The space heater thing....you hit it on the head. I have 3 120mm and a 180mm in my rig. That thing will make a cold room warm during a game session.
