really sorry you guys are having such problems.
Big thanks though for sharing with us.:toast:
Hopefully this will get sorted and we all will learn from it.

(by any chance have you tried it with XP?)

I've just re-reinstalled Vista 64 and played crysis at 1680x1050 ultra high settings custom config and 4xaa and it was smooth as a baby's behind (not in a
type of way)

I think it's just immature drivers, hopefully performance will just increase with every driver released. The card will also make for a good heater when the winter comes, so not such a bad purchase after all.

im not having any problems and these are idel temps!!!

check out the sensor on 90c idle!!! madness... anyways since then I bumped up the fan and im idling at 40c... maxxing out at 55c... still i think its working perfectly and my scores are the same as the people saying that the card is faulty.

Personally i think the card is great and perhaps people were expecting too much ;)

Just what I thought...Do this, bump up the fan speed to 65%. Wait 5 minutes then run Crysis benchmark again. Post your score and your temps.

no my score and my temps are fine now... this was taken earlier today and since I have set the fan at 60% my idle is in the 40's and performance seems the same....
performance is great in crysis and i have no complaints... my benchies are the same as the other folks.... though crysis when i boot up into vista 64bit sucks big time... XP has a 10fps advantage over it ;)

I've fitted an AC Acclero to mine and have the turbo module so temps aren't an issue:

idle temp.

Temps are ~60 under load.

Was getting some wierd FPS fluctuations in CSS though, Going between 100+ and 40.

Could be because Vista runs crysis in DX10 mode. When I had it on earlier with all the eye candy turned up it was running fine on DX9 mode, soon as I switched to DX10, it was a slide show.

I am not sure if we are on the same page or not. However besides the obvious of GPU temps:

this is the area of concern. You want to keep these temps as low as possible. Something to think about if you get an aftermarket HSF.

Also, I've read from benchers that you had to wait a few minutes after starting Vista if you want to bench games do to the super prefetching, etc. Once the thrashing is done you could bench.

The fans are silent (one of the doesn't work any way lol) but they are drowned out by the sound of my others. Definately a good investment if you wanna overclock in the future. Only ~£18 (accelero and fan) from ebuyer.

The only bad thing about it is that it's like a radiator and will heat up your whole system, so it's probably best that you have good airflow before you get it, apart from that, I can't fault it, bargain!

I don't believe what I just did!:D

I ordered a Sapphire HD 4870. I'm not sure that I want to put it in my good Gigabyte system until I know how it works. I was thinking of putting it in a Gigabyte 965P motherboard with a E6600. I don't really want to buy another motherboard at this time.

I just thought it was time to start :banghead:.

If I run my 8800GT SLI in Vista 64 DX10 my Crysis scores are crap. If I run the Vista 64 with DX9 selected a miracle happens. I thought this was just my system but maybe Vista 64 DX10 Crysis has big problems.

best performance and IQ i ever get from crysis is using the NaturalMod. try it guys, its very nice.

seems to keep FPS around the DX9 High setting mark, yet it looks like DX10 with enhancements.

well thats my experiences with it anyhow.

Holy crap, after viewing a couple natural movies I feel bad for selling Crysis :(
Crysis will look amazing in a year or two when everybody can run it on 1920x1200 with AA and AF enabled.

Nice one... thats kinda where I was on thursday night... reading all these benchies of people with theres... and thought, screw it!

To be honest, if I were you, Id drop the GT into your 2nd rig and put the 3870 in the main rig... it totally deserves it ;)

Problems to iron out?... um... theres none that I know of so far... only problem Ive had have been vista X64 problems

All those poor victims of HD 4870... You find them in nearly every forum these days.

They all are so disappointed because their GT performed the same their new 4870 does. We all know that, and we are full of empathy.

See, dear, we all know, 8800 GT performs so superior. It performs better than 8800 GTX, better than 8800 Ultra, better than two Ultra in SLI, better than 260 GTX, better than every card that outperforms one of those, and now all this poor peops have to live with a card as crappy as the HD 4870.

Let's all take a candle. Hold it right up and sing a gospel with me on this. Halleluja.

Thank god that those whose GTX 260 doesn't perform like a good ole 3870 and those whose GTX 280 disappoints in comparison take their faith like men and keep their tears hidden from public.

Maybe i should start a new thread! Why doesn't my 3870 perform in 2560x1600 like my x1800gto did in 1024x768? That's one hell of a problem for me and noone cares. And why doesn't my quad do SuperPi in five seconds? Would you call this justified? Would you?

Have i told you that i simply can't run Crysis with full AA and AF in 2048x1536 very high like my 1800gto did with Tomb Raider in 1280x1024 without loosing performance once?

Oh, what a cruel world...

My Sapphire HD 4870 runs awesome, bloody fast if you ask me:toast: Just can't wait for newer official drivers which should boost performance well over 20%+

I don't have time to read the rest of the thread, so someone might have said something. If you use Firefox, grab the Foxmarks add-on! It allows you to synchronize your bookmarks between any computer you use that uses Firefox and stores them on their server. You can even set them to sync from your own server if you don't want to fool with theirs. It's INCREDIBLY useful if you have to go between a laptop, desktop, and campus computer labs!

Thanks for the tip, but i rather export them to another drive instead. It's just that i thought they were current when i re-formatted but they were not.

just ran Furmark,i had to reduce the clocks for it to complete though

My Score 6052 with the 4870 at 780/1035 mhz, Q6700 at 3.2Ghz.

I have decided the following things
1.Upgrade my PSU from the corsair 550wat to at least a 750wat (also so i can run xfire one day)
2. wait for good drivers
3. get another 4870 and run em in xfire.
4. Get a PCI express 2.0 board just incase its my PCi express 1.0 causing the problems.

@ oli_ramsay: could this be your problem (in bold)? It could very well be that PCIe BUS bottlenecking you, dude!

I just Googled your motherboard (your system specs) and, in fact, your board is PCIe 1.0.

By any chance, do you have a friend that has a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, lives close to you, and is willing to test your card in his/her rig (and, preferably, has an ATI card so that, in worse case scenario, a format isn't required)?

None of my mates are into computers, but I suppose that's a possibility. I'm getting smoother game play after re-reinstalling Vista and I can play Crysis at 1680x1050 4xAA ultra high config so I'm happy :)

Just waiting for better drivers too :toast:
