WTF is wrong with these POS? It starts whining like a little bitch which pisses me off. So I take off the heatsink off to see If I can rig a way to dampen the whine (without luck). There's not shit on the PCB. So I put it back together and it's flashing 3 of the red lights. That's what I get for buying shit that isn't nvidia.

Wow.. what did you try to "dampen" the whine? Did you reapply new thermal paste? Something happened when you removed the heatsink.

4890 do not whine usually. At least mine do not. So its either a bad card or something else causing it, like Lizard says, it could be the PSU.

Yeah, it's been running for 3 yrs straight and no problems with the 4890. This is a tough PSU. No bashing rosewill here.

POS ati crap. That's the problem.

I didn't touch the damn thing. Took the fan off, looked at it, gave it some bad looks and put it back together (yes with thermal paste, I'm not an idiot). Junk ass shit.

Might as well get rid of the MB and go back to nvidia.

My old rosewill 550w made my 8800GT whine, I got an antec 500w and it stopped. Tellin you, those rosewills are crap. I'm sure after powering what you had for 3 years it's on it's way out. I doubt the card would die after taking the heatsink off unless you physically damaged it.

Plugged in another power supply with the 4890, 8800GT, and pci vid card. Doesn't boot. See what I get? If this shit keeps up, nvidia is gonna make more money off me.

Dude, you got a faulty card. It happens and it doesn't really matter what the brand is. Get over it and RMA it.

I had a Diamond OC 4890 and it didn't whine at all.

Great cooling solution on it IMO. The only reason I didn't keep it is because I decided to run Xfire HD4770 on my MB.

Plugged all the old shit back in and it works. Makes no sense. These cards are known to whine like 10 yr olds at a pedobear's house.

This is the one with 120mm fan that no one had problems with on newegg. I did have 8800GTs in SLI for a while. The 4890 wasn't DOA, it was working fine for two days.

Something here is fishy and it's not the PSU. Note I already tested with another psu and shit still didn't work. It has to be the MB being retarded.

I don't think that a psu would make a videocard "whine". Probably a faulty fan. Your probably just unlucky. My MSI 4890 is'nt giving me a hard time.

Oh, well, either case it's not the vid card, but I was pissed b/c I thought it was. I mean how many times do you just simply remove something and put it back and nothing works?

i kno the feeling, i was installing a sound card back when i had my 8800GT, i dropped the sound card, but it didn't even touch the 8800GT. went to boot up and the fucker didn't give me a display. tried so many differen't things and never got it to work. Was sooooo pissed. but now i have a lovely 7800GTX soon to be replaced by an HD 4770

Played 2 hrs of crysis w/o a hiccup. I'm tellin ya, this PSU is tough. Sometimes I game all day (and that was with a case that had crap airflow). Crysis wouldn't run with the 64 bit exe, though.

Lookin at 750W PSUs for when I get another 4890. But damnit, only the corsair is good that's a decent price. But I hate corsair

Corsair PSU's are solid, my 2 year old HX520 modular PSU is still running strong in my G/F's rig, and their quality definately pwns Rosewill's (not a bash on you btw, so don't take offense). But if you despise Corsair, I'd highly recommend a PC Power and Cooling 750, mine has been just rock solid, tons of cables and connections, single 60A 12V rail, PSU rated for about 825W peak, 80% efficiency, very quiet and cool, even with just a single 80mm fan the PSU stays very cool even under the heaviest of loads I've put it through.

So its fixed? Hmm the first time I killed my 4850 I had no idea what was wrong, clean PCB, no Physical damages.. but apparently I screwed in the heatsink back on too tight it must have broke the chip and made it stop booting or something.

Lol why the hate for corsair  .. their PSU's are 100% legit good quality.

EDIT: Seems like quite a few people are having problems with the 4890, you know I had to RMA the first one I bought because it didn't detect on any of my computers even with 4890 CD drivers lol. But luckily I got it from a walk-in shop and they replaced it right away. That may have had something to do with my order number being 6663 though LOL

other users, please don't judge on one's PSU. you might of heard crap and read bad reviews but Rosewill isn't a bad company. i've had my Rosewill 450W for over 2yrs and nothing has happened yet. Rosewill is a good company and that's what i and my Bro go buy when it come to buying PSU's. yes, there are better (opinion) company's like corsair, OCZ, Thermaltake, Etc. but i choose Rosewill for my PSU's.

OP - i'd suggest as another user suggested... look into RMA or have you fixed your problem?

His problem fixed itself pretty much :)

ASRockIQ: you mention not to judge other PSU makes/models, yet you jump to recommend Rosewill....

I've been using a "crappy" psu i got with some case about 5years ago, you know it's still going strong!

As it has been mentioned before in this thread though, it's not the make/model what is crappy, it's just how it happens, every manufacturer has bad parts going into thier goods, some more than others, yes, but it happens with all, some of us just happen to stick with what we hear the first time...
