5080 16gb is literally the 4080 12gb (aka 4070ti) all over again

Why is almost no one talking about how NVIDIA seems to be repeating the "4080 12GB that was really a 4070 card" situation with the rumoured 5080 16GB vs. 5080 24GB?

Fact: The 4080 12gb (aka 4070ti) is a card with basically half everything compared to the 4090.

Now 5080 16gb is rumoured to be a card with half everything compared to the 5090 therefore my thought process 5080 16gb is actually the 5070ti

Some of you seem OK with an 80 class card being half the 90. Why?

Is it because it’s still going to be on the gb202?
So what? They just cut it down a lot more than they usually do. Maybe gb202 not passing as 90 cards is higher or something.

Is it because is still going to be on the same level as the 4090?
So what? The 4070ti (aka 4080 12gb) was also the same level as the 3090.

Have you all forgotten? We used to rage over that the 70 tire card wasn't on the same level as the previous flagship?

Because it hasn't been announced yet and few are going to rage over rumours. When the announcement day comes you'll see a lot of people very mad.
But - if - this comes to life, nvidia won't budge like before cause a) seems like no competition at all this time, not even poor competition and b) they learned the lesson and will only launch just one 5080.

The full specs of the 24gb so at this point it’s still a rumour but knowing nvidia they are always trying to upsell you the 24gb

Well, it was always clear that the "4080 12GB" was a x70 -tier card.

yawn...specs don't matter, the actual performance and price are what matter.

For all we know 5090 could be 40% faster than 5080, even with 2x the specs.

My guess is 5080 is 1000usd and perform roughly the same as 4090, while 5090 is 2000usd

funny how consumers think they know what a lineup/tier/pricing structure a company should have, but only seem to apply this to computer components.

its up to NV for naming/perf and such.
and as i have said before, the same ppl that think what an xx70/80 card should be, dont go and buy anything else that way.
do you say to Porsche you want that 500 HP SUV for the price of a 4 door family van, cause their tier/pricing is wrong? right

What do you mean "no one is talking"? One only talks about things that one cares about, right? I can see very well that the specs of the 5090 and 5080 seem to repeat the same pattern that we've seen before, and Nvidia will do their best to rip us off, yadda-yadda, but the difference is that I don't care. So why should I talk about it?

As a side note, do you think that the 5090 and 5080 will be your only options when you buy a GPU in 2025? ;)

No, I want an extremely suspicious van, a couple clown costumes, a jigsaw, a chainsaw, and a couple hatchets... But that's off-topic.

I'm not fine, I'm furious but I can't do anything but dream of nuking all three big players so they stop shitposting. I'm broke so I can't make prices go higher upon me buying another unit but this is all I can help the community with.

NV can launch "5080" specced GPU as a 5090 for more than twenny hunnit and they definitely would get away with this. Zero chance AMD release anything better. Negative chance, Intel or whoever else does. It's official. NV are a monopoly. Wanna do something about that, form an anti-monopoly organisation that can handle this situation. Spoiler: you can't.

Yeah as long as the card performs well enough for my needs and fits my budget range I couldn't care less what number its called.

there is no half disabling the GB202 or 4070 TI corelation here. the only difference is memory size that gives them more flexibility.

even worse. the 80 class moved 1 up and the 60 moved 2 tiers up. 5080 is what used to be what you call a 5060. 5090 used to be a 5080.

It's all buyers fault because they are allowing it with ease! Right now bitcoin is not profitable and pandemic is over.......

Great example right here! As long as we think like this prices will never improve! "The devil is in the details"

Yeah it would sure change anything I bet.
From where I'm from the prices can't be helped and they suck regardless of what I buy or don't so theres that. 'All I can do is don't buy brand new full priced GPUs which I've been doing for many years now and only buy second hand ones'

The naming seriously is of no actual importance.

We should dig into pricing. Say, we focus on 500 dollar SKUs. If a new 500 dollar SKU doesn't make complete fun of an old one then something is not quite right. And this is what happens for the last generations. RTX 4070 doesn't make RTX 3070 Ti look awful. It's just better... somewhat. RTX 4070 Ti doesn't impress, either. If these two had been launched for half the money they'd been launched then they would've been marvellous value despite bizarre naming.

The fact they can call an xx60 GPU an xx80 GPU and sell it for what previously was insane to ask for whatever GPU in the first place arises not from naming, nor does it arise from the byers' mentality... exclusively. NV wouldn't've done that if competition existed.

I did find it funny how the 4090 hit the shelves and they couldn't stay in stock. Then when the 4080s hit the shelves no one touched them for a long time - well, at least from what I saw at Micro Center by me. I know you could find a 4080 online just as easy when they came out, but 4090s it was nearly 6 months before you could start finding them without diligently stalking retailers.

I wonder if we'll see the same thing this time around.

I would like the 5070 to be in the same-ish ballpark as the 4090. Not the 5080.
But why would nVidia do that when there’s no one to compete them even at 4080 tier.

Because there is RTX, if a card has RTX it has not to be as much powerfull as previous gens of same range (60/70/80) to be competitive for selling, because it has RTX "on top", yes ?

Gamers should not care about that Al Bias. If it's to expensive just don't buy it! Take a look for second hand or AMD if it's makes any sense.

Gamers should not care about that Al Bias. If it's to expensive just don't buy it! Take a look for second hand or AMD if it's makes any sense.

Whoa there, pal. Hear me well, if your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm.

This thread is quite amusing to me. When I pointed out the problems with the Ada SKU structure, people just told me I was being pedantic and that hardware being cutdown "literally didn't matter" if we were being sold a product that promises to perform as X or Y

I guess everything does come full circle

funny how consumers think they know what a lineup/tier/pricing structure a company should have, but only seem to apply this to computer components.

its up to NV for naming/perf and such.
and as i have said before, the same ppl that think what an xx70/80 card should be, dont go and buy anything else that way.
do you say to Porsche you want that 500 HP SUV for the price of a 4 door family van, cause their tier/pricing is wrong? right
Why wouldn't consumers notice certain patterns, certain behaviors from certain companies?

I was called a deranged AMD fan despite only having a GT 1030 at the moment. Society is never reasonable I guess.
