What experiences any of you guys can share about refurbished cards?
From the past, I only know about a series of 9800GT and GTX460 (20-20 card each), most from both dropped dead on the buyers after a few years (but all after the one year warranty tho).

I just tried a GTX 295 from EVGA, and a GTX 275 from EVGA and they work great purchased from Newegg. And so far the 560 Ti is working fine from Microcenter and I have a 2 year replacement plan. It's more risky but at times the price is so low that it is a no brainer and totally worth the risk. I was tempted to get an SLI motherboard and 2 of them for real kick ass performance but I resisted. 2 560 Ti in SLI is real fast. :toast:

P.S And I forgot I'm using a refurbished EVGA GTX 460 right now. LOL Works great.

Great thanks for the feedback. I was always afraid to draw conclusion only from the two cases I had.

I picked one up today.

Good price, but it sure is loud. Louder than both my 460 SC EE together.

EDIT:

As loud as it is, I just noticed the fan speed only goes between 40% and 75%.

How can I unlock the fan speed? BIOS flash, or another way?

EDIT #2:

I used NiBiTor to change the fan speeds, and reflashed the BIOS.

i always hear of deals at microcenter, and i love them all, yet their stores are so far and few between. hell i don't even think there's one in WV, probably have to go to Ohio or something. It's quite a let down :'(

Yeah and your about the same distance from Cincinnati as you are from Columbus....well Columbus is a little closer but it's still a 3.5 hour drive....
Oddly enough you are the same distance to the Rockville Maryland store....and you live about the same distance from the Fairfax Virginia store as the Cincinnati store...

Maybe you could plan a trip to Ocean City and then stop at Microcenter...Great Vacation idea

Well, I Couldn't Resist

I'll take one for back up;) Thanks OP.

I decided to take the plunge and go SLI with getting a 2nd 560 ti refurb and an SLI capable motherboard in the ASRock 990FX Extreme3 and I ordered some other parts from Newegg including an FX 8350 and 16 gigs of DDR3 1866 RAM and a 3 terrabyte Sata 3 hard drive. I'll see how it goes and what benchmark results I might get but I need to stay out of Microcenter. I'll be a VIP customer by the end of the month and broke, too. I like to support AMD but I now prefer Nvidia graphics so now I can have the best of both worlds, a decent AMD SLI motherboard and powerful Directx 11 goodness from Nvidia. :toast:

You'll be down to 1GB VRAM and given that the Ti is around 11% faster you'll probably get the same boost in SLI. Not worth it in my opinion.
