I just bought a second 5770 and it's the diamond version, so I will flash it with my Asus bios, and will let you know how two 5770 at 1000 core and DRR 5 5800 run. It should be similar to a 5870 but about 100.00 cheaper. I'm hoping the results are similar to a 4870 x2 with dx 11 and remember boys with the last driver release a 4870 x2 was matching or beating a 295 gtx.

that sounds awesome, but you might not even need to flash the bios with the MSI Afterburner hack thingy, or is that only for 58xx cards?

Na two 5770 will kill a 5850 and be about the same price.

For some reason I was thinking of 5750s when I wrote my post

Thats true but having two cards set up with both having the same bios is nice and the card I bought has the hynix ram so it should be exactly the same physically as my Asus.

honestly id rather have one 5870 or even a 5850 over 5770 xfire, even if it is better.

My mobo has the pci slots so close, the top card would get choked out.. but thats pretty common across alot of mobos I suppose. If I was going to wc the cards then xfire would be great.. but after the blocks I might as well buy nvidia single gpu.

Well I purchased the fully covered 5770 cards that exhaust out the back of the case. I was going to buy a 5970 but decided to let prices come down a bit and the first revision 5770 will hold there value better than the v2 because of the ram being better on v1 (same ram as the 5970). Plus 100.00 is a 100.00 savings for similar performance to a 5870. Two 5770 should really scream when oced. Also for people with smaller cases these 5770 card are alot smaller in comparison to a 5870 or heck even a 5850.

this is 5770 is only the first $170 of more to come i'm sure. you know how it gets around here.

i can also tell a significant diff in dirt2 from dx9 to dx11 and the picture quality is just awesome.

Nice, I'd do the same with a second 5870 when/if I get one, my current Sapphire card has the Asus bios on it.

Ok, while all that stuff is fascinating I really haven't a clue what your on about!

What we mean is that most stock cards have harsh limits to their overclocking, for example my 5870 was capped to 900/1300 (from 850/1200 stock) and some cards bios's have much higher limits, right now I'm running an asus 5870 bios where the limits are more like 1200 core 1400 memory, and trt740 is doing much the same.

Also I mentioned the newest MSI afterburner also lets you override the stock limitations and go as far as you like, but;

1. Bios mods are cool
2. trt740 is doing it to match his first card.

is the msi afterburner what I need to oc these ati's?
It is what you need to increase voltage.
It basically uses ATi overdrive for OC.

Straight out of the box, I would take the HD 4870 1GB over the HD 5770, if you don't plan to OC or volt mod.

never bother with xfire unless you are rich and decide to xfire the 2 most expensive cards on the market.

My advice is get the 4890 Vapor x, OCs great and is a good upgrade the 4870. ITs only 190 dollars on newegg, $25 more than the 5770.

Thats all wrong, im poor and only Crossfire mid level cards.

The expensive cards dont need crossfire in 99.9% of comps.

Why xfire 5770s when you could get better overall performance with a 5850?

Crossfire doesn't work with all games either : ]

Over here you'd be paying an extra 50 pound for a crossfire 5770 setup, not worth it at all.
