I did some test with single card (3Dmark & some games) on my crossfirex board (1x16 & 1x8) i didn't see any difference between both & all i'ved got was about 20 points more in 3dmark06 in x16 slot but that was it lol!

So between x8 or x16 there is not really a difference but your's is x4 & pci-e 1.0 or 1.1? , so it may do much difference in your case but i'm not sure?

The reason for asking is (I am no intel expert) but isant the P35 a PCI X 1.0?
(if so I dont think X4 would be cool even for the second card)

I run a pair of 5770s on PCI X 2.0 X16's and they are fine but I wish I had gone with a 5850 instead (and added another later if needed)

Im pretty sure it is, if so than a x4 on a modern mobo would be like a X2 on yours (and that wouldnt be good for the 5770) Im sure it would work ok but the prob is you are paying top dollar for the GPUs and to lose a chunk of performance on ur mobo its just wasting money.

What size LCD are you using? I run a 24" and the 5770s are fine but I wish they were more (especially for their cost)
If you have anything smaller than a 24 that a single 5850 is plenty (I know they are hard to find and $$ now but in a short while when Nvidia releases its new cards they should be cheaper and more plentiful)

Oh yea, what GPU are you using now?

it's the first time i heard that :)
so 5850 (or any) on a 16x 2.0 will be weaker then on 16x 1.1 ?

Nope PCI Express 2.0 is allows double the bandwidth of a PCI Express 1.0/1.1 (basically on your mobo(1.0/1.1) the X16 is equal to a modern mobo(2.0) thats X8)

And the second card dosent need as much bandwidth as the first one but to run a card as expensive as the 5770 on a PCI X 1.0 at X4 is a waste of money. (It will work but its just a waste)

The single 5850 is a much better option.

Not likely to be anytime soon. By the time they do chances are better cards will be round the corner.

They were supposed to be $279US and I think thats a reasonable price for them.

But lower is always better

Definitely recommend you fill in your System Specifications metafan.

No point going over the same ground, but unfortunately you're going to notice a pretty big performance hit if you go down the Crossfire route. Depending on what the rest of your specification is, upgrading your GFX might not be as easy as you think...

changing cpu and motherboard so you can get two 5770's will cost more than just getting a 5850

Might as well get the 5850 now then upgrade the rest. Unless you upgrade to x58, p55 or phenom II you'd be cheaper just getting the 5850 even though there might be some bottleneck.
