Well I now have a job so have some cash to splash :)

I'm getting an AMD X6 1090T
4 GB OCZ gold DDR3 Ram
ASrock 880 Deluxe Mobo

Now I have a 5770 from Sapphire, do I

A) Get another one and go Xfire to run my three 23" screens at 1920 * 1080 (£120 approx)
B) Get 2 HIS 6870 and go Xfire (£400 approx)
C) Something else you can suggest.

i'd suggest going for a 1055T instead as many will tell you that this chip can overclock like crazy for what it's worth and get some different RAM too, maybe Corsair or just something what can handle lower timings better at stock or even overclocked speeds (if you plan to do this) I guess you do as you went for the black edition processor, so the need for tighter timings should be a must really and from what I've seen OCZ arn't that great with low timings :(

As for the GPU, that depends on how much you'll be wanting to game in DX11? Right now it's not a major thing, but it is on the up! so do take that into consideration when your choosing between the two cards you've selected.

Both cards selected are DX11, I don't understand your reasoning.

To OP I would grab a single 6870 which should be within 10% of the dual 5770's. If you feel it's not enough to drive your resolution while gaming then pick up a second one.

How long will you be keeping this setup? If the answer is about 2 years, I think the 6870 would be a better choice. If you are planning to upgrade in a year or so, stick with dual 5770, but get another used one instead.

Is it really worth the hassle for me to get a 1055? I'd rather have it work out the box than farce with Overclocking.

How about this RAM instead.

Is a 6870 good enough to run eyefinity? If it is I'll just get one, then save the extra £200.

My budget is about £400, I doubt a 6900 card will come near that budget.

I 6870 is a 5870 at 64% of the price although only 85% of the performance, how ever over clocked they match a stock 5870 and even beat it.

Although a nicely over-clocked 5870 will still beat an over-clocked 6870.

Well first off you will need a new motherboard and ram, and if your planning on the 1090t then thats your £400 budget gone as your motherboard doesn't support PII and you will need ddr3 ram.

By the way, what do you mean work out of the box? the 1055t can oc pretty much the same as the 1090t although you have to raise the bus speed instead of the multi, save yourself the £50 and grab the 1055t

I'd get another 5770, cheapest option, then the 2 in crossfire will beat the 6870 at just over half the price.

The £400 was the graphic budget, forgot to mention that. I don't really want to farce around Overclocking stuff, when I can just get decent specs out of the box.

+1, and as I stated you need a new motherboard, cpu and ram also, basically a new pc, whats your max total budget?

£400 will buy you a 6970 I would imagine easily!!

And paying for a 1090t over a 1055t for an extra 400mhz is stupid, especially if you wont be overclocking as the 1090t with its unlocked multi is aimed at overclockers, believe me you can easily get even the crappest overclocking 1055t to 3.2ghz no matter how overclocking illiterate you may be. Its that easy.

Max budget is £787.21 exactly, can't go over that.

The way I've worked it now I can get the mobo, CPU, RAM in November, then the GPU(S) in December, so at least I have a decent PC sooner.

I would grab an Intel i5 760 and a Gigabyte UD4 or something like that, also chuck in 4gb ddr3 2000mhz and a better PSUJ and you still have £350 for a 69** series card when they're released :rockout:

get this ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-291-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 1600mhz C7 it runs elpidia bbse chips on it as well meaning IF you ever do decide to oc it will do 1800mhz 7-8-8-22 no prob. personally i would get the 1090t imo why get the watered down version when you can get the real deal and if he decides to oc in the future well it will be less hassle there as well. imo the 6XXX cards will only do better in tessalation performance not much more then that, and as has been seen most DX11 tittles out dont really use intense tessalation anyways. dual 5770's or a 6950/6970

Rigs got to be AMD, no offense I appreciate the suggestion but I've been an AMD man since I built my first rig, and I don't fancy changing into unfamiliar waters.

Above are some quotes I got from a couple of commonly used sites, with and without 2 x 6870's to give you an idea of what it will be price wise... even with either of those setups you'll be left with plenty to spend on a 69xx GPU if you decided to wait for them, and ofcourse that's if your wanting to go AMD, I suspected so due to you selecting AMD to begin with.

I've come to a decision, and that's to get a second 5770 for now, and maybe look at a 6XXX card setup in May next year, £117 gets me a Xfire setup which should work pretty well for now.

Thanks for all the help.

Rigs got to be AMD, no offense I appreciate the suggestion but I've been an AMD man since I built my first rig, and I don't fancy changing into unfamiliar waters.

So you dont oc and you have never had an intel rig, are you here for suggestions or just to back up your already cemented ideas?

You seem intent on doing what you have already planned, so I see no need for discussion here.

But at least consider dropping the 1090t for the 1055t the price difference isn't worth it. Also 2 5770's will not fair that heavily in eyefinity, best bet is to wait for the 6950's and budget permitting see if you can buy 2 of them with the £400 you set aside and the £50 you save on a 1090t.

Again no matter which option you choose you will need a better PSU.

Good luck, I hope you get the best rig for your budget.

I never said I don't overclock, but this time round I just want to buy some components for the rig and not have to bother to do it, maybe at a later time when I fancy it just for the hell of it.

I've had two intel rigs a while back, I went AMD when I started building my own, I'd rather stick with them as I've never had trouble with them, and know about them.

I may well buy a 6XXX I won't be doing it till mid December so was just gauging peoples thoughts at the moment.

Sorry buddy only just seen your post, the RAM you've picked looks pretty good, so I'm going to go with that rather than the other two I posted, I'm gonnah stick with the 1090, I've got the money to burn.

I'm torn again on the GPU's, Are there any graphs comparing FPS off 6870 vs 5770 and there Xfire equivalents?

A 6870 is a little below par a 5870 and 2x 5770's also fall a little below par of a 5870, so a single 5770 and 6870 is no contest and a single card solution would be the easiest/cleanest option so any day of the week choose a 6870 over dual 5770's
