This is not a random problem.
Worked well in with my previous card (XFX 5870) so I can exclude the cable problem.
Monitors drivers are up to date (from Win7 update)
Like stated above fresh install - removed the 2nd Radeon 5850 - latest drivers & patches.
Here a movie link of what happend :
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheW00tie?feature=mhw4

Gonna get back, later 2nite, my old 5870 which i sold to a friend and put it back to see what happend.

Well if it worked with the other GPU, then you can pretty much eliminate the other parts of the configuration. Time to start the RMA process with the 5850s; I would almost be willing to assume, based on your video,
that the second 5850 is causing the issue. Simple because the CF link is failing for some reason when attempting to be used. However this doesn't eliminate problems with the first 5850s CF port, you could do this by Cross Firing the original 5870 and the working 5850..

Additionally have you tried swapping the positions of the 5850s? This would confirm the problem is hardware based and has to deal with the CF port on the side of the GPU. If the Second GPU worked, I would then assume that it's either the bridge your using....or 1 or both cards have faulty Crossfire Ports.

To be precise..

none of the 5850 are running on the DP the way it should. (even in a single card setup).
Crossfire bridges could not be the problem, after the game starts, well i able to play after that on/off trick, i get a framerate >120. (1920*1200).
Since those Sapphire 5850 toxic cards are factory overclocked as hell, I presume that i should now look into this direction.
I could start a RMA but I live in Europe and I imported those card from the US (newegg.com) and i've been looking at Sapphire site for some kind of support/rma and did not find a very clear answer about that.

I am having the issue on XFX 5870, for me, it's random..about 2/3rds of BFBC2 starts, in single card. Clicking the error message just gives repeated errors. It's about 1/3 of Dirt2 starts.

Hmm..you know, what brand of cable do you have? Startech, by chance?

Both cards I have here do it, but it's far worse in Corssfire..every time I start an app, I get the message, sometimes monitor is off, sometimes the app is just windowed.

Anything weird going on on the dvi ports, with all three connected? How about full-desktop IE, and flashing when scrolling?

Crossfire XFX 5850's here and BC2 works fine on both my older 9.12 hotfix and overinstalled 10.3a drivers. I do have a longer load screen than my mates (they always beat me into game) but graphically i have no issues whatsoever.

Would a double crossfire bridge improve my performance any? Not that there's much to improve on though...

I did have the old crossfire disengaging on each new map in L4D2 (resolved by alt-tabbing).

Though i love the cards, i know the drivers aren't yet up to NV's standards (although I know of late they have slipped).

it sucks to be you - Ive delt with Sapphire tech RMA & they refused to accept a RTB (Return To Base) & said I had to take the unit back to the shop/retailer I originally bought it from & let THEM deal with the RMA process....

I honestly dont know what the big deal is - Maybe theyve recieved lots of cards in the past that were in perfect working condition & it was the owner who was complaining that the card wasnt running upto spec or good enough so RMA'd it...

Who knows. I good thing is I didnt have to pay P&p for the RMA like I would if i was sending the unit directly to to their HQ.

but I feel 'safer' in a sense knowing that I sent it directly to them rather then hand it back to the dudes at the shop to deal with & they might send it in late or take the card & swap it around with something less powerful when the card arrives back from RMA.

but otherwise Sapphire CC are very helpful asside from refusing to accept direct RTB RMA's.

good luck - your gonna need it

I always use both bridges and never have problems.

If there Sapphire Tech, you RMA them to Newegg.com. Go to there website and start a chat with them, and explain you have Sapphire Tech items, and they have instructed you to RMA them through the point of purchase, newegg.com .

The good news, is I have done this, and it worked out great. Took about a month, but it's newegg, they'll take care of you aslong as you play by the rules.

When I did this; I had a Sapphire Tech HD 4870 X2, that I purchased from newegg 1 year and 9 months prior to when they died. Sapphire Tech claims a 2 year warrenty with all there parts. So I invoked there warrenty language in the chat session with newegg.com; they confirmed it. And I actually got a full refund of the original purchase price(550USD); because no one carries HD 4870X2's anymore, at least they didn't.

Since those card works perfectly hooked on the DVI port, i could eventually sell those on the local market. Originaly I bought those cards to have a crossfireX Eyefinity setup working smooth with 3 monitors bcoz my XFX 5870 did not run smooth.
So plan is sell those cards & get my XFX which i sold to a friend who is only using it on a VGA monitor. To bad.. those will be my last Sapphire cards ever.
I'm pretty sure this is a engineering/design fault, how can you explain that both card are failing on the DP?

Dont for get Eyefinity is still pretty much in its first generation state & that 5xxx series cards are the first generation DX11 cards etc etc - their bound to have a few bugs. & its not right that you knock a company becuase of it. sapphire has some badass cards. but everything is still at a very early stage but things will get better eventually

I agree FreedomEclipse, Sapphire Tech is specifies how to enforce there warrenty, and Newegg.com will take care of you when it comes to RMA'ing the cards. You can't fault them because your not willing to follow the RMA proccess. Shit happens, you get bad hardware. When I got my EX58-UD4P it took them 2 boards to get a working one to me. It's no one's direct fault, I don't blame Gigaybite. Newegg.com payed for the Shipping both ways, and was more than vocal during the process.

the only thing that sucks is that the cards have to travel all the way back to the U.S from Europe to start the RMA procedure. - Another reason why Im very cautious about buying hardware from Hong Kong & taking it back to the UK just incase it goes wrong as I really only ever visit once every 3 years, & family over there are a little funny so I try not to rely on them if i have a problem...

Well.. I swapped back with the XFX board I had originaly and guess what .. it work w/o problems.
So both Sapphire 5850 Toxic where having that DP symptoms, i presume so kind of design fault.
I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one have this issue.
I have a threat on AMD/ATI forums where a guy has similar problem.

And yes RMA from Europe to US & then back on kindda suck..since the card is working well when the monitor is hooked on one of the DVI ports.

try n get a refund if you can - with all the news about the 6xxx series being around the corner, Id rather go for one of them.
