5870 CF or single 5970?

Is 2 5870 crossfire better than a single 5970? Is it worth replace my 2 285gtx SLI with 2 5870 CF or 5970?

CF is somewhat better, but you can OC both setups and they will achieve same top clocks, with some variation, but the CF will run cooler and quieter, but also cost more.
Id say get 2 ASUS 5870

HEHE, now about that model, never had any experience with it, nor seen any review, but is looks like a slimmed down vaporx desing, might have good noise and heat dissipátion

2 5870's cross fired are better only for the fact the clock speeds are higher on the single cards. I have a 5970 and can over clock it to the same MHz and higher with a slight voltage tweak. Basically with that said it runs just as well as two single card's

IMO id get a 5970 just for the fact its cheaper than buying 2 5870's...
and yes Id replace the ol green gpu's

If you like a gpu that puts heat into your case than go for it lol... I hate coolers that wont vent 100% of the heat out the rear of the case.

I have similar PSU as yours, corsair 850tx. Do you think its enough power to run 2 5970?

Im going to try it some time and think it will handle it but running the wattage calculator online it says id need a 1100 watt psu so who knows... Im sure someone can confirm your question

Doesnt show how much 2 5970s CF will suck up. But knowing Corsairs tend to underrate their PSUs, it looks like it might handle it.

well it does show the draw on a single gpu but as for running two 5970's Im thinking it may be a tad under powered but one never knows till they try it lol :toast:

the corsair 850tx is really 1020 watts when you add the numbers on the PSU. I dont know if HX is same

Stupid question on my part. Was the geforce 200gtx series suppose to compete against the radeon HD 4000s or 5000s? I'm still the not fully familiar with radeon, so I don't know which is the proper generational comparisons.

4000 was up to the 200s. 5000s is against fermi, which just came out.

I had twin 4890's and I must say WHAT A DIFFERENCE the 5970 made. Im always benching and this gpu is just insaine! Gaming has never been better ever since the upgrade....

I see you don't care to over clock but if ever you decide to Id highly recommend Sapphire, your guaranteed for sure to have the ability to change voltages... I was an XFX fan but they always do there own revisions and are crap if it's not a reference design gpu...

Id get either one or two of these.....

I would go for the single HD 5970. Two cards takes up a lot of space, and you can always sometime in the future grab another HD 5970 and Crossfire those monsters together

i think the 5870's run faster also if you have them on 16x/16x pci express lanes. the 5970 is limitted to 16x total, and that has been shown to slighly reduce overall bandwidth.
