Using ATIFlash latest version it seems as though I can't flash my Asus Matrix 5870 2GB.

I've tried practically every combination of commands listed by atiflash.exe and tried renaming the files .rom and .bin nothing works.

I keep getting the error

Programed = 0 Rom Size 20000
Rom Not Erased
FL01

I used Gpu to extract the Bios and RBE to change volts and clocks.

Someone must know whats wrong?

6850

I am also having trouble. I have two 6850's that I am trying to flash. I have tried winflash, which bricked one of them, and I have tried several versions of atiflash. I can get atiflash to see the adapters, but when I type in the commands, which I have tried many, it doesn't do anything, then I hit enter and the computer restarts about five seconds later. I have also tried both bin and rom files with different BIOS files I know it shouldn't matter if they are bin or rom. I have tried flashing these on both my primary ASUS mb and MSI secondary and both are doing the same thing.

The boards are both HIS 6850s. The MSI board says that there was a hyper transport flood error, whereas the ASUS ROG just freezes and needs a hard reset. I have also removed the other cards and made the gpu i'm trying to flash the primary adapter in the BIOS and made the display connection to that card.

Together we can discover it's secret.

I think I may have discovered a fix for me.

My BIOS is most likely locked.

the command atiflash -unlockrom x might unlock it and allow me to flash.

I'll post back with results.

Yes, you may need to "unlock" the bios before flashing. Quite itneresting, that, as I have suspicions about these cards only being able to be flashed so many itmes before the bios becomes corrupted, and no further flashing can fix it...the bios chip then needs to be replaced.

I can confirm that unlocking my bios with that command allowed me to finally flash my card. However, RBE didn't seem to edit the BIOS correctly I am now running odd clocks :/?

Interesting theory cadaveca, I hope it isn't it true.

well, it's funny that they started to implement something so easily beat by those that really want to. For what purpose?

Is the flasher not working right, or are RBE-edited bioses on RMA'd cards a problem? or is it the bios chips themselves?

I think the most obvious would be the bios chips themselves, but whatever, what do I know?

RBE should only be used to raise CCC maximums. Then clock using CCC. Use "no hash" method to edit CCC maximums.

Thats what I've been doing but since I got this card to overvolt and Asus I Tweaker is literally shit I'm trying to Flash it with ATiflash now. Another issue I have OC with CCC is that it changes my 2D clocks to 400/1250 or whatever I overclock the mem to causing my GPU's fan to spin more then it should and for my card to idle 50C when it should idle 37.

All in all atiflash seemed to be my only answer.

Or you could just run the card stock...

the command is -unlockrom "X", where "X" equals the adapter ID(usually "0" for first vga).

yes i got that but is it something that you implement then flash or is it all at once like

atiflash -unlockrom 0 -p 0 bios.binrom

do the unlock command on it's own, first. Then flash.

separately resulted in the same old freeze.

oh well. try something else.

works for some, as you can see above. maybe depends on atiflash version. i dunno...

Aphex, yes, that looks fine to me, I suppose...run at stock clocks and make sure things work right, then try upping clocks, and make sure performacne increases as you do. I typically mimic ASUS' 1200/1500 limits, so I do not know if 2000/2000 will have any ill effects, but i think it's unlikely it will. Never know though...

Also, may sure to "restore factory defaults" in CCC before clocking.

did you type this

atiflash -unlockrom 0

exactly like that

But look at my 2D Clocks! Its running 894/1200 at desktop! I don't want this!

I think you manged to flash it.

Did you see stuff happen after the 2nd command and the reboot?

No and when I check the bios version with atiflash it shows that it didn't flash.

It seems as though my Card only runs 2D clocks when the 3D Clocks remain at its default settings.

The moment I flash them higher or use CCC to increase the 3D clocks thats when the 2D clocks jump...

you edited clocks in RBE...I hope you have original bios...only edit CCC limits, and 3Dclock voltage, nothing more.

Even then, afterburner will do all that without bios edits.

I see I figured that out.

Card would artifact at 980 with 1.2 volts (at least as given by RBE) and 2D clocks always jump when OC with CCC so I'm just going to stick with my sad apparent limit of 970. I don't need to OC I was just in the benchmarking mood.

I always have the worst taste in cards... even when they are shit expensive... :banghead:

Afterburner is even worse. OC with it sets my 2D clocks to my 3D Clocks 1:1

Yeah, i just simply hit the "reset" button to get 2D clocks back. I haven't done anything to this card, other than using Afterburner.

The actual usable benefits from overclocking these cards is very little, as it seems they still benefit from more cpu than they should.
