Hi :) I hope this is the right sub-forum to post this.

I recently upgraded to an AMD 5900X CPU on an ASRock x570 Steel Legend mobo. Managed to get everything working fine, except ...

The device manager tab shows missing CPU drivers [pic attached for reference] -> 5900X Driver Error.jpg

What am I doing wrong? I have already installed the latest chipset drivers from the AMD website, etc., the works.

Why is the CPU tab showing an exclamation mark and where do I find CPU drivers if they are not in the chipset driver download?

And what happens when you right click one of the 16 instances there and choose "update driver"?

Thats a new one

I'd also say uninstall the driver and scan for new ones - the drivers are generic and part of windows, and should not need to be downloaded

If the above steps dont work, check the first link in my signature and look for the windows repair commands, SFC /scannow, DISM repair etc - your OS may be corrupt

It shows me the AMD Processor option and selecting that does not change anything i.e. the exclamation mark still remains.

Thats a new one

Tried the SFC /scannow option, it showed some errors and said that it was able to fix them. But, rebooting has not helped. Issue remains.

I am not conversant with DISM repair, but will take help from searching the net and try to see if that is able to help.

Edit #1: Also re-installed the latest chipset drivers, but that has not helped either. Currently running DISM. Will report back.

Edit #2: DISM did not change anything. Still showing the issue. Also, AMD Ryzen Master does not install. It says there is already a newer version installed, but I have un-installed every trace of any previous installation from the SSD/HDD and also from the registry using regedit. And, no, the registry is not corrupt :) I did the procedure after checking 3 different YouTube help videos, which all advised similar methods of cleaning the registry manually.

Edit #3: Don't know if this is relevant, but I should mention that my boot drive is the same one that I used on my 1800X + Crosshair VI Hero mobo combination earlier. So basically it is an old installation of the Windows 10 OS, and not a new/clean install. I have already deleted all (?) traces of the 1800X and old ASUS mobo from the device manager tab. Maybe I've not done a perfect job of it, but I was unable to find any guidelines on what, if anything specific, to delete from the device manager tab when upgrading to a new CPU/mobo combo.

Yeah, somethings corrupt.

Ryzen master has done this to me before with needing a clean reinstall of it, with a CPU Change... but the windows driver problem is very unusual.

Clean install time, need advice there? W11 does have the fix out for the ryzen performance bug that made the news

So, based on you guys' experience, there's no better way? I was hoping to preserve my apps and settings. I know Windows 10 has an option to allow refreshing an old installation from the original installation ISO boot USB, but it all seems very complicated, and I really don't want to lose all the personalizations to my settings that I've configured over the last 2-3 years :(

Go see what the error code is
The device manager tab --> Properties on one of the CPU threads says this --> "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)".

The driver information from the Events tab shows this:

Driver Name: cpu.inf
Class Guid: {50127dc3-0f36-415e-a6cc-4cb3be910b65}
Driver Date: 04/21/2009
Driver Version: 10.0.19041.546
Driver Provider: Microsoft

The driver date is of 2009. Is that correct? I would have hoped that the driver would be new since the series 5000 CPUs are new. But, I'm sure there's stuff I don't understand :D

everything is correct on the date and version of the driver, that's not the problem. The problem is the message, try and google the message and find a solution before doing anything crazy like a new OS install.

i google it and a lot of results came up like this one

try it and see

Install IOBIT driver booster. It can clean the not needed drivers for any absent device and will check for new ones. I have used it and works well. I had an FX8350 and upgraded to AM4 and Zen+ without problems at all. Your case is much easier to be fixed.

Ddue, those customisations and changes you did are what broke something. Don't fight to keep a broken OS, you'll spend all your time fixing that shit again and again.

Take the time, backup important files, installers etc to another drive. You may well find out many of those changes you made simply aren't needed, especially if you move to 11

Uh, it seems like I spoke too soon :confused: The driver issue seems to be solved, but the AMD Ryzen Master installation is still not working.

Edit: Found a reddit post -> AMDHelp/comments/e85dco

There is actually a much quicker and simpler solution.
It iterates on that "Rewrite all DisplayVersion keys in Regedit" guide:
  1. Open Regedit (Win+R, type regedit, hit Enter)
  2. Insert
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    into the top "address bar", hit Enter
  3. On the left-side of the window, right-click the now selected "Uninstall" folder, hit Export and save it somewhere
  4. Afterwards remove this folder (hit Delete key when folder is selected or right-click it and hit "Delete" from there)
  5. Run Ryzen Master installer until you get an actual install window and you can at this point go back to the backed up registry file, double-click it to open it, confirm the prompt and it will restore those values to the previous state
  6. Carry on with installing Ryzen Master, it will successfully install now.
I find this method to be the quickest and simplest.

I hope I am not breaking any rules by linking this post here. The idea from the comments, about deleting the Uninstall registry keys and installing them after Ryzen Master is installed, is the one I used, and finally got AMD Ryzen Master installed. Just in case anyone else has this issue.

Uh, it seems like I spoke too soon :confused: The driver issue seems to be solved, but the AMD Ryzen Master installation is still not working.

Edit: Found a reddit post -> AMDHelp/comments/e85dco

I hope I am not breaking any rules by linking this post here. The idea from the comments, about deleting the Uninstall registry keys and installing them after Ryzen Master is installed, is the one I used, and finally got AMD Ryzen Master installed. Just in case anyone else has this issue.
Ryzen master doesnt like CPU swaps, glad you found a fix

Reinstall windows.

If they are going to go that far to solve it, maybe try removing them and see if they come back currently and even re installing the mobo drivers too.

I seen this way back with a intel system and just needed to remove them and on next reboot they are were all good.
