6870 Went from 60fps to 22fps

The card in my system specs is went from getting 60fps to all the sudden getting 22fps in games like starcraft 2 and dota 2. I have had this card for quite some time. GPUz shows the core clock and memory clocks are where they are supposed to be.

Temp 1: 43C; Temp 2: 127C; Temp 3: 36C

My GPU temps go as high as 56 C.

you have to tell us what temps those are. and you will need to take the reading during the game when you are facing this problem.
have speedfan running, in the graph tab.

The CPU does not go over 50 C during game on temp 1 2 and 3 in speed fan. The GPU goes to a maximum of 57 C.

Those temps are during gameplay.

All of those temps are acceptable.

TEMP 2 on speed fan is reading 127 and never changes. It is a false reading.

I think the card may have over heated due to restricting the fan to 30%. The air flow probably wasn't turbulent enough and the temperature probably exceeded 85 degrees C for a prolonged time.

Things to try..
Update DirectX or Uninstall/Install
Set game video settings to the lowest possible (just to see if the fps actually go up)

Seems like it all started when I installed DOTA 2. So it may be software related. I'm going to remove my GPU drivers with driver sweeper. I'll reinstall and see if I notice improvement.

The problem with reinstalling the drivers is that every time windows 8 boots without drivers installed, it installs Microsoft catalyst 12.1. the controls are not accessible. When I install the 13.1 drivers it tells me 12.1 is installed, however, I can't access gpu overdrive. Not being able to access gpu overdrive is normally related to previously installed old drivers. However, even after using driver sweeper Microsoft automatically installs the old driver. This happens even when I turn off the automatic function...

Its not downloading through the internet. It is downloading from a driver bank in windows 8.

the 127 is probably your VRMs, and thats way too high. They should be around 90-100

Thats proboly why you are throttling.

85C is okay for a GPU.

I turned off Windows Update and it works to an extent. It will not reinstall drivers if I uninstall ATI catalyst control center, then uninstall the driver from device manager, then use driver sweeper. When I reboot I install catalyst control 13.4 and I still cant see any GPU over driver options...

The software says it is the current version. I am going to test game performance now.

Or maybe it's a sensor that doesn't exist... :wtf:

Make sure your power settings are set to balanced or performance. SC2 is very CPU dependent and if the cpu isn't ramping up or boost isn't kicking in, it might impact performance. My 6870s work plenty well on SC2 with the 13.5 beta drivers.

Working now. I repeated the same process. Frames are still low. 6870 cant handle SC2 on ultra anymore....
