My first choice is the 3080 just because I have so much better luck with nvidia drivers.

Benchmark Scores Don't know any benchmark. It runs good enough for me.
Preferably Rtx3080 just for the drivers and hardware acceleration like tensor cores. If otherwise just go for which ever is cheaper is my recommendation.

who needs DLSS with 2.7 Ghz Core Clock? :D
as much as is don't like AMD (the drivers are fine btw.)
the 6900XT is a much better deal than the 3080.
it's faster, more efficient, 60% more VRAM.

It's just that AMD falls behind with DXR ray tracing if that's important to you.

raytracing is still in it's infancy and basically as useless on a 3090.

Frankly, it's not a good time to buy either card with the extortionate prices at the moment.

DLSS is a band-aid for failing to keep up with screen size resolution out put.
It can be easily regained by not using AA & AF ( I don't like TSA my self ). Along with turning down long/far distance draw at ultra high resolutions like 4K.
Playing a game you tend to focus more of the center of the screen, in my honest opinion the only Thing that DLSS fixes is Fencing, the rest of it can easily achieved with settings.
Sometimes things are blurred out because of Depth of field settings.
Frankly, it's not a good time to buy either card with the extortionate prices at the moment.
I wholly agree with this right now.
but if you must, I would take the 6900XT over the RTX 3080
unless your heavily invested in Raytracing.

The 6900XT is the better performer, gives you more performance per watt, and has double the VRAM.

Nvidia definitely went cheap with the 3080's VRAM and if they do add another 8GB at some point in the future, that's going to increase power consumption by another 18-28w.

DLSS and RTX are in so few games that they aren't big enough to be a point to pick one or the other. RTX doesn't provide anywhere near good enough performance right now in the games that it is in anyways.

People talking about drivers forget that Nvidia has made more mistakes with the 3000 series than AMD has with the 6000 series. The 3000 series launched with driver issues. The 6000 series launch has been squeaky clean.

Id say 3080 or 6800XT

I don't think the 6800 XT is far behind the 6900XT its just much better value. Has the same 16GB too.

Voted 3080 as 6800XT is not on the list.

Since you got it from crypto. 3080 has better hashrate than 6900xt. So....

Rasterization wise the 6900 XT wins. Get the 3080 only if you care about hashrate, DLSS, ray tracing or tensor cores, as was said above. Honestly I wouldn't even get the 6900 XT and settle for a 6800 XT instead.

I just dumped half of my 100000 doge.

Might as well get both the 6900XT and 3080 and see which one you prefer. I guess you can flip them without taking much of a loss at all.

Notice how he said the 3080 is $500 more than the 6900xt so I think he is going to pay a scalper for one. The msrp of the 6900xt is higher than 3080, but 3080s are going for more than $2k now.

So far, the Adrenalin driver for my RX 6900 XT has been pretty good, was even good during the time I was using the RX 6800 from later part of November to the whole of December before I upped the card to the RX 6900 XT on 2nd January. Only issue I'd seen then was Metro Exodus CTD with RT enabled. A newer driver release resolved that issue. Right now, as a user of an RX 6000 series card, I can say the driver and Adrenalin features have been pretty good (I sometimes wonder if all the AMD driver naysayers were just parroting what they had heard or read in the various forums/discussions).

In fact, I've been an ATi/AMD card user since the good ole 9700 Pro days, and I've not experienced any issue that would make me regret getting their cards. I also ran nVidia cards since my first nVidia card (GF2 MX400 IIRC) and have run both CF and SLi configs (last CF rig was a pair of VEGA64's, last nVidia was a pair of GTX Titan's). I've not had any major driver issues with either, so I don't understand the dissing of AMD drivers.

I chose the RX 6000 series card over nVidia for various reasons:
1. An RTX 3080 costs as much as an RX 6900 XT in some instances,
2. Availability, couldn't find an RX 6800 XT, the RX 6900 XT (like the RTX 3090) seems to be more easily available ('easily' being relative of course)
3. I think RT still needs much better hardware to run well at native res, without the need for DLSS, so I'm not a fan of RT as it stands now,
4. More VRAM is more 'future proof', yes, I hate to bandy that term, but AMD has always been more generous with VRAM than nVidia (which would later release more VRAM version of the cards). I like the thought that when more VRAM is needed, my card has the necessary VRAM. Just look at the RTX 3060 Ti (8GB) vs RTX 3060 (12GB), doesn't make sense to me to have more VRAM on a weaker card. I guess that leaves room for nVidia to make an RTX 3060 Super with 12GB RAM (another cash cow).

What a coincidence, my first dGPU was a MX400 as well.

I've had problems with cards of both brands so I tend to just buy whichever is best. I do find it odd how people never let AMD live their issues down yet both the 3000 and 2000 series launched with issues and people are still acting as if it can't happen on Nvidia. The 2000 series was worse though as space invaders rendered some cards useless. That's all we are really talking about, a fraction of total cards sold. Even during the height of AMD's 5000 series (RDNA1) driver issues, users with reported users compared to Nvidia were only 1.2% higher.

I see it's about a 50/50 shot. That was my concensus. I ended up with the 6900xt and It am going to buy a couple really expensive whiskeys with the leftovers.

It depends entirely on what games you play and what settings you use.

The RX 6900 XT is usually faster at 1080p and 1440p. If you play at these resolutions without ray tracing or DLSS 2.0, the 6900 XT is best.

The RTX 3080 is usually faster at 4K and with Ray Tracing, and supports DLSS. If you play at 4K or if you mostly play games that support DLSS 2.0 and/or ray tracing, the RTX 3080 is best.

AMD drivers/software being bad is more of a meme than actually true. They have had some problems in the past (e.g. radeon settings not saving properly in a version from a couple of years ago), but Nvidia have had problems with their drivers more recently than AMD (causing texture artifacts in new games like Cyberpunk 2077), but everyone seems to forget when it happens to Nvidia.

6900 is $500 cheaper.
Wait, I didn't see this earlier.

If it's that much cheaper, why is this even a question? You're comparing two cards at around the same tier of performance, so if one is $500 cheaper than the other it's obviously a much better deal.
