Sony has published its list of Playstation and Playstation 2 titles that will work with the European version of the PS3, with 72% of PS2 games claimed to be working on the new console. The list should be available here, but unfortunately it is no longer working so Sony may be amending the list. The v1.6 firmware announced earlier today will allow 1,782 of the 2,451 PS2 games available in Europe run using emulation, although it is claimed that many will not work 100%. According to Sony, games such as Kingdom Hearts and Twisted Metal Black run with "noticeable issues" (which have not been published). Removing non-essential USB devices and avoiding 60Hz mode (NTSC) may help to solve some of these problems, as well as limiting the number of players on one console to seven. President of SCEE David Reeves said "We will be adding additional titles to this list in future firmware upgrades, but as we have made clear before, in the future our resources will be increasingly focused on developing new services and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, rather than on delivering PS2 backwards compatibility."

Update: the link now appears to be working again

Well, the ass cracks should be focusing on both sides of it. Lets say Im a PS2 owner (I was, until it caput on me and replaced it with a 360 then ps3.) Alright, I have a huge library of games that I play, but I want to go ahead and move to ps3, either my ps2 is really really old (like first gen), its about to die, or Im just wanting to evolve with gaming. Well, I still play alot of my ps2 games and some I have not beaten. Id be pissed off if at first, I was promised 100% compatibility only to be told that no, only, at best, 3/4 of my games work. To make matters worse, the company isnt supporting me no more, as they arent worried if Im happy or not. So in essence, sony is more fixiated (and I Dont blame them here folks, Im, just offering other arguements here) with the future (as they should be) rather than delivering on the promise they made to me before I bought it. That is....backwards compatibility!!! :banghead: :banghead:

no, the xbox had something like 1000 games

also, when it was first released in europe it was only compatible with ~150 games

1000...yea right!

i just found the number now...its 500.

you seem to be very bias against the 360.

http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=EEpEAkuuFElhYDugdL4431

so,

300/500 = 60%, just 12% short compare to the ps3.

60% of 500 is not the same that of 72% of 2000 or more.

I have a 360 and that make me feel dissapointed. the 360 don't support many games that I like.

Def Jam Fight for NY, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and other kick ass games. So the ps3 is better supporting last generation games.

so,

300/500 = 60%, just 12% short compare to the ps3.

no 150/500=32%

a difference of 40%

rememer the xbox360 only supported 150 games when it was released in europe, they have had a year to nearly double that number

though the interesting thing that was just brought to my attention, the ps3 will be backwards compatible with more games on its release than the original xbox even had

assuming we believe your 500 game number which was posted back in 2004

if you pay attention to the trivial things like dates, i guess we could just assume no more games came out at all for the xbox in the year between the time that list was posted and the time the 360 came out

i am far from against the 360, why is it that when someone says something is better than something else in an area that suddenly means they are against it?

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=293000

see there, i openly admit i play my 360 more than my ps3, but yeah, i hate that xbox360 so much... /sarcasm

you sure do like to defend the 360 against the ps3 a lot and make rather bold claims about the 360 comparisions to the ps3, you wouldn't be against the ps3 would you?

I am never against the ps3...if i had the money i would by it. heck i don't even own a 360. but i do go to my friends and families house to play. I had higher hopes for the ps3 over the 360...you can search for my post regarding this, and was willing to pay for it (if funds were ready) I was quite disappointed that they couldn't deliver any thing...out of the ordinary. Sony always delivered, but this time they don't. I stand for the 360 because from what i have seen so far, it is the better of the systems and that it. And the ps3 has potential, looking at the games so far...its seems maxed out...sad. So there is around 1000 games then...eh? From the official BC list, all my games are supported, and i do have a small 20+ ish collection of the top games for the xbox...so i am happy. I doubt ppl want to play so random ass Sponge bob game...etc. In other words, out of the 1000, 400-500 are games that is popularly played, the rest is garbage games. But same goes with the ps2...out of the 2000, maybe 600 are worth playing...so having a high percentage is a lame boasting on ones system.

I really don't think the ps3 is near maxed out, ktr. Developers just haven't gotten the hang of programming for an entirely new platform. I believe we will see more good things from ps3 soon.

maxed out? are you serious? yeah, i am sure you are

i am sure you seriously would make a bold statement that the system is maxed out based on a handful of launch titles

it wouldn't be anti-sony of you if you didn't make bold anti-ps3 statements based on nothing

well the 360 is maxed out to, have you see a massive graphic change between launch and now? not to much, very little...so what makes the ps3 special? Is it is special "cell" cpu? and its weaker and much slower gpu? Blind fate...ps3 owners got riped...:pimp:

more than i think about it, yea, i am anti-ps3 now...they have changed, they are here for your money now, rather than delivering a better system. ps3 owners got themselves a glorified ps2 with blue ray.

all that "power" in the 360 and the ps3 still has launch titles that look better than anything put out on the 360 so far

and yes, there were improvements between the launch titles on the 360

the difference between gears of war and lost planet very noticeable, you can tell the developers have had time to streamline the latest 360 games compared to the launch titles

the same will happen with the ps3, the games will only continue to improve, the fact that they are starting out already better than the 360 games after a year means they will continue to be better as they improve
