Well right now, the 7800GT because its SLi enabled, but as soon as "Cross Fire" comes out for the X850...the X850. Two 7800GT's will dominate a X850, but an X850 is slightly faster than a 7800GT, so two X850's will be slightly faster than two 7800GT's. It also depends on what game you want to play, like Doom is based on Nvidia cards, So is Battlefield 2.

Well when you buy a 7800GTX, you have the choice of going to SLi. True you have to buy a new motherboard and another 7800GTX, but your already 1/3 of the way there haha. But I, being the owner of an X800PRO, going against my loalty to ATI, would say yes, get a 7800GTX if you want to play Battlefeild 2.

ps SLi is nVideas way of intergrating two graphics cards to preform a little under twice as fast. ATI doesnt have that yet but its on its way, its called Cross Fire.

also i suck at spelling

But even if the 7800GTX is for BF2, wouldn't it make sence to wait for te cross fire, I also like ATI a lot better then nVidea.

personally, im a bit more fond of ati than nvidia...

and if i remember correctly from the reviews that i've read the x850xt pe is marginally superior to the 7800gtx.
(i could be wrong though... it not like im looking at a direct comparison between the two right now... ;p)

Trust me, the 7800GTX is way faster. Is it worth the premium though? Thats a totally difficult question which only you can answer:)

Yeah, in comparison to 16 pipelines of the x850, the 7800 has 24. Those pipes are a MAJOR factor to graphics. So yeah, it's got no competition. Too bad, I mean the X850XT PE kills everything in it's class, but the 7800 is a next-generation card, so it's not even in the same class as the x850.

I love ATI, but they need to get their act together. I mean they still don't have crossfire mainstream yet, and they don't have any thing to compete against the 7800 gtx. I used to be 100% ATI after I found out Nvidia takes big shortcuts to cheapen products (I have a laptop with a GeForce Go MX440 that's only got DirectX 7.1, it was made when DirectX 9 was out), but now I'm leaning towards Nvidia. They outclass ATI with their mid-series (6600), outdo ATI technology-wise (SLI and 7800 series released way before ATI), and altogether seem to have better ways of selling (BFG OC, I don't know any ATI partners that overclock their cards).

Yea, the 7800 will own a X850XT PE. The soon to be released R520 FUDO from ATI is going to be the 7800's direct competition.

Unfortunately, the X850 is really beaten up by the 7800GTX. There's no match. The 7800GTX beats the X850 in everything except HL2 and UT where the X850 is only ahead with low resolutions. With effects cranked up high, the X850 can't hold a candle to the 7800GTX. I don't even think CrossFire X850's will beat SLI 7800GTX's. Best wait for the R520 if you want to compare or stick with ATI. ;)

this is asking the question ATI, or nvidia...eventhough i am a massive ATI man, until Crossfire comes out, nvidia has em beat with that 7800GTX. :(

7800gtx : 24 pipes, ati x850xt pe : 16 pipes. do the math.

the 7800's that ive seen are scoring 8500+ in 3dmark05 (no mods/stock cooling), where as a fully modded/cooled x850xt pe would be roughly in the same area.

r520 due out in september with crossfire soon to follow

sapphire overclocks some of the ati cards, they call them "toxic"

Well you know, if the X850XT PE really does compare to the 7800GTX when modded, that's kind of sad. theoretically it should have about 150% of the power of an X850, hardware-wise, not even overclocking, but the X850 can still compare? I hope not, it just doesn't make sense, the R520 core should have about twice the power of the 7800GTX if that's true.

Links to scores please.. what sort of modification/cooling are you talking about? If its extreme stuff then there might be a chance of the x850xt pe going close to the 7800gtx in 3dmark. Depends on lots of stuff too.. CPU, chipset, ram.. although not greatly..
