Leaning to the 7970, passed on the 6 series. I'm currently running 2 5850 toxics and a 5870 but my dell display adapter crapped out so I'm now wasting my 3240 x 1920 eyefinity.

I'm amazed at what regular 5850's are selling for on Ebay so I can easily pull $450.00 off the 3 cards but somone is selling two gtx 580's for a little under $800.00 and they're tempting me too. I got a bonus check recently so I've even considered xfire 7970.

System specs are mostly right other than what I mentioned on the monitors and cards, one 7970, two 580's for a little more? I think the 7970 but I love the toxic version ati's but got some money burning a hole so not sure I can wait for em.

Title says no brainer so I'm leaning that way, any input appreciated.

To consolidate, trifire 1g cards worth trading for single 3g card for eyefinity? I'm thinking I could probably wait on xfire on the 7970's based on what I've read.

7950 should be out at the end of this month for ~$400 so wait a little and make crossfire or buy a 7970 now.
Gtx 580 is not a good investition right now because in a mont or two new cards from nvidia will appear and gtx 580 would be worth less than $300 and so on.
my 2 cents

What happens in April / May?

The way I see it, April-May will be the point in time where we will see both AMD and Nvidia's 28nm GPUs on the market. Which if you're looking for a graphics card upgrade would be the right time to do so.

First Kepler GPU from Nvidia.

Exclude GTX580, they are over. Get new tech, crossfire 7950 for eyefinity or wait for the next mid-high NV cards, supposedly 7950-70 performance at a lower price for NV surround.

7970 CF or 7950 CF > Anything from the Old line up of GPU's. (nvidia and AMD)

the 7950 is turning into the new 6950 (best price to performance imo)

Out of the options of choosing some Nvidia 580s in SLI or a single AMD HD7970 I would choose the 7970 for the fact its newer and significantly more powerful than a single 580, but it would probably be better to wait for the newer graphics cards to come out since Nvidia hasn't released any new cards yet and most of the 7970s are just the reference models with the only exception being XFX with their custom cooling with two cards and one of the two cards having some minor overclocking.
