Hi everyone :)

It seems I'm a sucker for a good bargain but I was just curious what sort of mileage people were getting with their 8700k/8086k CPUs?

I'm not really expecting miracles but I was interested to find out what sort of overclocks/voltages/cooling people where using?

If anyone feels like sharing their results, please post a screenie below :)

Thanks in advance!! :)

My 8700K does about 5.1GHz Core & 5.0GHz Cache @ 1.344V Vcore on water, I haven't done much extensive stability testing though. My chip is very temperature dependent in that using more than 1.35V on ambient cooling equals negative scaling due to core temps passing 60-70c. That is much like my 4770K & 7350K which do 6.5GHz+ on LN2.

Ahhh, I wish I could justify replacing my 6700K with an 8700K.. I barely use that system as it is though :ohwell:

5.0Ghz With cache/uncore synced. No AVX offset. 1.45v. (Fairly poor chip). Hidden in a data closet with noctua air cooling and tons of high rpm blower fans... so the voltage is not as bad as it sounds considering temps are pretty low and it can pass prime95 small ffts overnight.

So a daft question guys, what would you say to a good/average/poor CPU is like for terms of CPU vcore?? :)

I would say that 5GHz ~1.3V is already good. 1.35V would be average and 1.4V or more will be below average.
It also depends on how the chip is scaling with voltage or temperature as above 5GHz can be higher steps for 5.1, 5.2 ...

8600K which I sold some time ago required 1.4V for 5GHz, 9700K ES needs about 1.35V, 8086K below 1.3V.
My 8086k can make about 5GHz 1.25V (1.22-1.25V, depends on load) in longer tests on all cores but I wasn't testing full stability. The longest was something like XTU stability test or AIDA64 for about 1h. Fully stable could run at 4.7GHz 1.15V in ITX gaming box.

Well everyone sees Vcore differently for some users 8086K running at 5.0GHz with 1.36V it is considered a good CPU while i would say otherwise and that is why i prefer not to give my own opinion about what is good and what isn't because i know that while some users will agree with me some others wont , however i can speak for myself, i consider my CPU a good one it does 5.3GHz 1.36V and it is not delidded.

My rule of thumb here is that if you need to go beyond 1.4V, you're out of the comfort zone and if the CPU needs that to hit 5 Ghz all core, its not a great chip. If you can hit 5 Ghz with 1.35V its a good one. If you can do it with 1.3V, you go towards great.

But these things aren't linear. There is a good chance that the same CPU that can't hit 5 Ghz under 1.4V, will purr happily at 4.8 with substantially lower volts. I've got one of those...

Mine behave the same way as the one that @Woomack own/ed 5.0GHz 1.22V and could run at 4.8GHz 1.15V, now i don't know if things will change after i installed the 8086K on the new Motherboard

the 8086 is just a binned 8700k good for another 100mhz or so over the 8700k at the same voltage and temps..

That is correct

The only difference between my 8700K and 8086K is that both can overclock at the same clock speed but the 8086K with lower voltages and temps

Most 8086K OC the same as typical 8700K. I guess it's just Limited Edition label and nothing else. Boost up to 5GHz is still at high voltages and it's only single core which is barely visible anywhere. Most boards at auto bump the voltage to 1.45V or something near.

@Knoxx9
5.3GHz at 1.36V without delidding on ambient temps is like top 3% :) ...

We have a problem to tell what is really good or bad, mostly because what we see around the web is usually based on a lot of complains or top results when someone had a lot of luck. Most of those who have 5GHz 1.4V+ chip are not sharing results on the forums. Many of those who get 5GHz 1.35V are saying it's really bad ... and there are still 1.45V chips.

There are additional factors like temps, motherboards, how high memory runs etc. It's hard to compare processors on various platforms.

Exactly, i remember first time i installed the 8086K and left everything at Auto the Voltage was 1.45V, 8086K overclock in most case way better and most 8700K struggle when Overclocking at 5.1GHz+, you and @trog100 said it all ( I guess it's just Limited Edition label and nothing else, the 8086 is just a binned 8700k good for another 100mhz or so over the 8700k at the same voltage and temps.. )

Yeap, i cant complaint at all, even so i run it at 5.0GHZ in Summertime and 5.3GHz Wintertime

Thanks guys :) If I can find one that will give me 5Ghz around 1.3 to 1.35 then I'd be happy, if it's more meh if it's less, whoopie :D :)

That said whenever you overclock you might get a CPU that would do 5Ghz @ 1.3 then require 1.45 to do 5.1Ghz.. Another might require 1.35v to do 5Ghz but only 1.375v to do 5.1Ghz.. I guess it all depends on how the gods where smiling when it was made :)

@Knoxx29 - your chiller, is that on all the time or just when your benching? :)

@Knoxx29 - your chiller, is that on all the time or just when your benching? :)
On just in Summertime when Playing or Benching for regular tasks off, Wintertime most of the time off.

Note: It would be fun to turn on the Chiller just to watch Youtube Videos, read the Email or post somethin on TechPowerUp

If I can find one that will give me 5Ghz around 1.3 to 1.35 then I'd be happy
8700K or 8086K?

the 8086 will give most folks 5g at do-able temps.. the 8700K struggles a bit.. 5g is that magical figure..

on auto volts my 8700k runs 1.35 volts at 5g.. the temps are a tad high for me.. it will bench at 5.2 i havnt tried 5.3..

for normal use i run mine at 4.9G.. unusual but both temps and volts are near the same as at 4.8g.. :)

in simple terms with my cooling which isnt bad 5g isnt really do-able for me.. the 8086 would make it do-able.. if i didnt already have an 8700k i would buy the 8060 just to get the magical 5g..

i am sure a de-lid would make it do-able but i cant be arsed..

trog

ps.. i should not really admit to this but i havnt yet figured out how to apply voltage off-set on my asus board.. he he..

8700K or 8086K?
Oh I thought you ran it 24/7 for kudos ;)

I don't think I'd mind either to be honest, the 8700k seems to be a bit cheaper as I've seen some second hand ones going for the $250 mark in the USA.. The 8086k seems to be fetching crazy money and I'm not prepared to pay for it... :) It'll be in a rig that hardly gets used, so it just seems a bit of wasted cash..

I don't know why we continue wasting money in things we don't really need, you want a 8700K/8086K and i bought a new Motherboard
