For what it's worth... Maybe someone can benefit from this.
To make a long story short, my HTPC build has been a frustrating one. First, my 1950 crossfire setup would not run crossfire through a dvi to hdmi cable. Box was checked but it didn't work. Trust me I know the tricks and it just does -NOT- work. Plug in a dvi monitor and it worked, plug in the dvi to hdmi cable and it didnt. Anyways... I built the 1950 crossfire rig into an extra gaming box and picked up a deal on a 8800gtx and thought that would make a nice card for a HTPC. It runs as fast as my 1950s.
The problem is the connectors on the 8800 gtx are facing upwards! Lucky for me I had a junk mobo laying around and low and behold the 6-pin vga power connectors are key'd the same as some of the ATX connector holes! So what I did was take a propane torch to the back of the mobo and pulled the connector off. It's quick this way.
I cut down the ATX connector to what I needed and soldered it on the back side of the 8800 gtx.
WA-LA! Works like a champ.
The case is a nMedia 1000b.
