Only 3 points better ( 12225 ) on 3dm06 with these drivers.

But not stable on long stress progs.

EDIT : 12255 points ( so 30 more :) ) just with a little v-mod on bios ( 1.15v ).

Try overclocking with Rivatuner. There is a guidehere. I know it is for the 8500/8600 but the tutorial for Riva is good, Give that a shot. I'd recommend getting Ati Tool as well I use it mainly for checking temps as well as checking to see if there will be any artifacting at a certain clock. Just go by the Rivatuner guide in that thread and you should be fine.

I could swear there was a thread very similar to that for the 8800 series but I can't find it.

Got 11176 with my 8800GS with just some basic overclocking. I'll have to mod the BIOS to add some more voltage, but I think the E6600 is causing the low score. I think I might try to bump it up to see if the score goes up with it.

Hi :)
I tried several voltages in my 8800 GS bios and best results were done with only 1.15V ( 1.1 stock ).
With 1.2 or 1.3V, no better OC, just higher temps

Hey, i've been trying to find out how do I flash my card to the XFX alpha dog edition (overclocked) when I use a non overclocked version?

where do I get the bios file and what do I flash with?

Hi:)

You can download the XFX 8800 GS xXx ( 680MHz core clock )bios here.

Then, flash yours with NVFlash after after saving original bios ( or download it in TPU VGA bios collection ).

my 8800 gs will be here on Monday, i was wondering what kind of fps i can expect in css. I play with 1280 by 1024 res all settings will be set to high and AA will be at 4x or 8x and filtering mode will be 8x. Rest will be high. I have a amd x2 4000+ , 1.5 gigs of ram. When i am playing in dust 2 and i am in a firefight with lets say like 4 other ppl...will my fps drop below 60? like they do right now with my shitty 8600 gt?

Also can i oc my xfx 8800 gs to the XXX's clock and mem speeds right out of the box? or shall i use the safe ocing techniques and go by little by little?

You should easily see 60+ fps at almost all time in css, and you can defintiely oc it out of the box to xxx levels if you can't then you have the worst luck. With my rig i never drop below 100 fps on de_dust2 with 20 people on the screen. You shouldn't have any issues holding 60 with only 4

sweet dude. i highly believe you because i have a 8600 gt and i get 105 fps on dust 2 but it drops to friggin 40-50 for like the duration of the fight, and i play with all high except mat_specular is 0 and mat_bummaps is 0

even though i can take the core and mem straight to xxx speeds, i will still use the safe ocing techniques given the fact each card is different.

I got my Palit GeForce 8800 GS 384MB card. It doesn't even have temp. sensor, and the fan works @ 100% all the time. Crap card, but i am gonna try some overclock and see where can I go.

That is a Palit issue, not the cards issue, my 8800GS has a temp sensor and fan control out of the box. You might have to flash to a new BIOS, but from what I hear the cooler Palit uses is crap anyway, with a fan that can only work at 100% regardless of BIOS.

Yall Forget the 8800GS came about because they couldnt get a great enough Yield of 8800GTS or GT, so the card is somewhat handicapped by temperature/clock speed and perhaps some pipelines/shaders.

Yeah, i know, 8800 GS is a very good medium range card, the fan on the palit got a 2-pin connector and the connector on the board is 4-pin. But there is also a 2-pin connector on the board, i am wondering what that could be. I check the BIOS, the fan speed is set at 100% for 2D, even if i change it, it probably won't work because there is no 4th PWM wire on the fan.

But then again, my HD 3870 fan got a 2-pin connector with a 2-pin connector on board, how come that one uses dynamic speed on fan depending on temp???

Any advice or idea would be appreciated. Thanks.

it has to do with voltage regulation of the fan power header its self if its just a 2pin header with thermal control

Hi there!

i OC my eVGA 8800GS to Core/Shader 680/1700 and Ram 995.
Proofed it with ATI-Tools Artefact Scan.

If i want to go higher mybe Ram ober 1000Mhz or Core 690 then the Artefakt scan will find errors.

I think i cant go higher with my 8800GS, what think the other 8800GS users here? ;)

Just got my ASUS EN8800GS TOP today. It is clocked at 600MHz core and 1800MHz memory. Don't know abt the shader though. The really good thing is that the fan on it is really silent regardless of 100% speed, i was annoyed with my Palit GeForce 8800GS and then I went mad with the XFX 8800GS noise level. This is really silent, but it doesn't have temp. sensor or fan speed regulator either. GPU-Z or rivatuner can't detect anything.

get nibitor and see if you can edit the hex code to add it, the temp diode is built into the core it would be a bios config thats not showing it

the linked article gets into the overclocking an evga 8800GS issue. i have mine at 680/1700/950. i won't push beyond, as i got artifacts at 700mhz core but at the time i also had my shader clock linked to core....so idk. anyway part of the article (found right here at TPU) says this, but with some suggestions on how to go further to follow, i believe:

To find the maximum overclock of our card we used a combination of Rivatuner, ATITool and our benchmarking suite. Overclocking the memory was extremely easy, basically you set the clock to 1000 MHz which should always work since 1.0 ns chips are installed and then work your way up from there. When overclocking the core, the first thing you should enable is independent shader clock adjustments, then find the maximum stable shader clock. When overclocking the GPU core frequency, everything is fine until you reach about 680 MHz. From then on the overclocks revert instantly because NVIDIA has put a lock into their driver which limits the core clock to a maximum of 680 MHz. There is a grey zone of around 10 MHz which you can reach when playing around with 680 - 690 MHz clocks.

mine is fine overclocked to 680/1700/950 i find

EDIT: ok just took mine to 680/1733 /1000. i'm gonna run some stability tests brb
GPU-Z or rivatuner can't detect anything.
i have found the evga model to be really nice. fan speed control, temp sensor, feels quality.

mine is fine overclocked to 680/1700/950 i find

Then my 680/1700/995 is okey :)

i can go higher but then i get erros as i sayed.. i just wondering that techpowerup can go so much higher... but if i see this

Hehe Memory 1000 or higher?.. where? ;) i think GPU 700 and memory 800 will be no problem... but i hink its better to let my card @680 and memory 995 ;)
