8800GT 512 or 9600GT 1GB???? HELP!!!

XFX NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600gt 1GB GDDR3
MSI NVIDIA GEFORCE NX8800 GT 512MB GDDR3

I ONY WANT 1 CARD, NO SLI

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS ABOUT IT
WICH SOULD BE BETTER FOR EXTREME GAMING?

Try and get the Palit 1gb 9600GT it should be alot cheaper. But I would get a 8800GT anyway.

Hands down, the 8800GT is a more powerful card. NO disputing this. Higher fps and beats out the 9600GT by more than 1000pts. in 3dmark06. Oh, and I just returned an MSI 8800GT because it was spitting out artifacts at the factory OC. I would try a BFG, EVGA 8800GT. Another unsolicited thought. Why not a HD3870? From my recent experience, it falls right in the middle between the 8800GT and 9600GT in price and performance.

The MSI 8800GT is hands down the fastest and quietest 8800GT there is. The 1 gig on that 9600GT will have the same effect as it did on the 8800gt 1gig versions, there is too much memory to be accessed with the speed of the card not being sufficient to support it. This means that the 1gig will actually slow it down. Stay away from any OC'd versions as you can save yourself some bux and OC it yourself.

That's not really enough to overthrow each other. I know if there were more than $50 difference with the 9600GT being cheaper, I would buy that.

OC'd versions of cards may come with a bios a voltmod already applied so don't count them out toally.

Any who, get the 8800GTS 512MB, best bang for the buck. Save you money and get the regular, non-OC version (unless the OC version cost the same), for there is no difference between the non-OC and the OC, other than factory stock clocks...which can be achieved on the non-OC card (via ntune). Stick with brands like EVGA, and XFX, for they offer life time warranty and covers OC and replacing the cooler.

Good place to look at OCs and what they run

I have hit 800/1900/900 on default voltage on my cards with a maze4.


Both those cards you have listed are referace designs and are the same expect for the cooler on them. The oc edition is just a oc on the default voltage

8800gt! If u have the money, get 8800GTS 512... better for extreme gaming.
I'd try to find out a aftermarket cooler to cool it down(ACaccelero+turbo module would be a fantastic choiche if u have the free slots)

If u have the bucks rather buy a very high end card or maybe if u can hold onto that card u have( i know it sounds hard.......IT IS!!) we can see what Nvidia and ATI bring forth to the competition. Especially if you like nVidia they are going to release a card with extreme levels of performance so if i were u i would wait mate..

Th3-R3as0n has a nice approach too. He is right, Q3 sees a release of the G200 chip from nvidia that will show a staggering performance increase to the G92. The 9900GTX which will be a single card solution will put to shame the 9800GX2. Not to mention that with Nvidias' purchase of Physx this will be the 1st line of cards will full Physx intergrated into them. However fotunatley for the rest of us Nvidia is working on a new driver batch that will unlock physx on cards going as far back as the 6000 series they claim.
