Hey Guyz, im having some temp problems with my 8800GT, it sets at 52c-60c when idle and up to 75c in load, by the way its a Gigabyte 8800GT and has a zalman fan (obviously not helping at all)installated in it, so any suggestions....

Thanxx

The temps aren't awful for a GT, but you may want to try re-seating the cooler. Be sure to use new thermal grease, and be sure to clean the old stuff off with alcohol or arctic-clean. Make sure you have good case airflow too, a cooler that doesn't exit the heat out of the back of the case needs very good case airflow.

if it is a PWM fan you should be able to force it to run 100% in rivatuner, which will lower temps if its not already at full speed. otherwise i use zalman fanmate controllers to mechanically force 100% on my fans. i much prefer hardware controll as oppose to software, puts my mind at ease.

even so 75 load isnt "bad" as such but its a tad warm, however i would say 60 degree idle is a tad warm.

but at the moment ill agree that the zalman fan isnt helping as i topped out at 65-67 degrees on the single slot stock cooler.

Or get a fairly cheap Arctic Cooling S1 rev2 cooler and either the fan module or a 92/120mm fan and install that to enjoy nice and cool temps! When I purchased my S1 it was cheaper than the VF900.

Like Erocker said though, a reseat of the heatsink with fresh thermal grease is a good place to start!

i have same temps, and mine is superclocked EVGA, stock cooler (fan is at 29%constantly)
I think I know which zalman you have and i have to say that it is just too small to give you a better temp
and that temp isn't that bad if you aren't Oc'ing, otherwise get accero cooler

see jelle mees, im at 840 core 2052 shaders, but my dual core 3.2 is holding me back, i reckon if you get 15k+ at 750 core 1890 shaders, ill be looking at near 16k!

I will never upgrade this CPU unless it dies on me. It's still 10% faster then the Q9650 ( benchmarked with Q9650 myself ).

mmmm im tossing up between the Q6600 and an E8xxx .......

Q6600...

Have a look at this benchmark list:
http://www.hardware.info/benchmarks/cmpx/view/

I am #66 ( The Dreamshocker ). Look at the guy below me, he has a more powerfull GPU that is overclocked way higher and an E8500 overclocked to 4275Mhz...and my slower GT and my lower-clocked Q6600 are still faster.

The E8xxx are wonderfull CPU's that can be overclocked very high. But the amount of multi-core applications and games rises every day.

All upcoming Unreal 3 engine games will support 4 cores, all upcoming Cryengine 2 games will support 4 cores, the latest Source engine supports 4 cores, Assasins Creed will use 4 cores...

I say, if you are planning on upgrading your CPU in 2009, buy the E8400 and overclock it to the max. If you want to buy a CPU that will last a year longer, buy the Q6600 but performance will be slightly lower in games that only support one or two cores...

The fact is, if you have a E8400 on 4.6Ghz or a Q6600 on 3.6Ghz, both have advantages and disadvantages and both will runs games with very high framerates...

im leaning towards the quad ..... i am a hardcore bencher ..... and ill be the first of my mates to get a quad :D.

and as you said more and more apps and games will lean towards multicore, i think as the months go by itll be a better CPU to have, and even when i replace it, itll be a good spare for my Asrock 4core DualVsta.

btw pics of the vmod in my "8800GT @ 1.3v" post :D
