I know the GTS 250 is better. Though my tennis coach has a few 8-series cards lying around in his computer shop. He's willing to sell me an Asus 8800GTS 512mb for only $30. What's the perf comparing to one gts 250. Even though i have three is sli. Thanks a bunch :D

They are nearly identical (I moved from a 8800GTS G92 to a GTS 250 for heat and power savings), at the same clocks they should perform on par with one another. At $30 I would buy all the ones he has available.

The GTS 250 is alot faster than the 8800 GT, it has more shader unit and an extra 512MB frame buffer. The GTS 250 is slightly faster than the 4850. But I agree, at $30 I would snap up the card!

Not A LOT faster, look
http://tpucdn.com/reviews/Colorful/iGame_GTX_460_1_GB/images/perfrel_1280.gif
soo, yea for 30$ its worth it, and were not even compering the GTS250 to 8800GT, were compering it to the 8800GTS G92 so the differences are even smaller

That must be a dodgy chart? because the GTS 250 1GB is definitely about 20% faster than the 8800 GT aka 9800 GT by atleast 20% @ 1280x1024 and relative relative performance across all other resolutions. At 1900x1200 there is a 22% difference.

I'm sticking with my answer. The 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 512MB are very similar in performance. I'm certain that the 9800 GTX+/GTS 250 is faster.

Great, because I was beginning to think that you are nuts. those 250s in SLI are work horses. So are those 5770 CF. Off topic question here, which performs better in your opinion the 250 SLI or 4770 CF set up.

Cause I thought we were on about the 8800GTS not the 8800GT....

it went ... 8800GTS>9800GT>GTS 250

All rebadged with slightly higher clocks/vram going up the scale and lower fab process.

ie: same g92 core and the 8800GTS is faster than the GT so why you chose that to compare I do not know.

I'm sticking with my answer. The 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 512MB are very similar in performance. I'm certain that the 9800 GTX /GTS 250 is faster.

Just for reference here are GPUz shots of my old 8800GTS G92 (the card he can buy) and my newer GTS 250:

Like I already mentioned, less the die shrink to 55nmm, more aggressive clocks, and some power saving features, the cards are identical. Clock them to equal levels, which is a pretty achievable OC, they will perform nearly equal. Also putting mem equal at 512mb.

yea i totally was missing Dent1's point. N if we feel technical it went 8800GT>9800GT...that's it, then there was the 8800GTS(G92)>9800GTX>9800GTX+>GTS 250. 8800GT was roughly 10% slower than the GTS, so yea lol comparing the GTS 250 to the 8800GT and giving that as facts for the GTS isn't quite accurate :p.

N i also used to have an 8800GTS, i clocked it exactly at GTS 250 clocks and my performance was always mirroring what i saw for stock GTS 250's. They'll be great back ups for ur current or sell em for $65 a pop

In addition to the memory increase, and the move from 65nm to 55nm GPU.
