OK, so, today I go to FrozenCPU's store (its based near my house) and pick up an ATi Silencer 2 which should theoretically work with my card. The problem is, it didnt. After much maneuvering and attempts and thoughts and anger, it still didnt go. So we said fuck that. Now, i happened to be at a friend's LAN Party, and they were kinda tech junkies. So the dad runs to the basement and pulls out an old crappy AXP 2200+ heatsink/fan. using a bit of wire (2 pieces), we force the thing on at an odd angle, slightly interfering with the AGP slot. 1 of the wires went through the normal HSF holes, the other went around it and through the notch in the bottom of the card. Its on there, it works, and fuck if i know if it was worth it. Anyone wanna buy a ATI Silencer 2 (for 9600, pro, XT) for 30 dollars? :)

The list of what takes what silencer says your 9600 should take a v2 as well as a v1 but evidently not. You could try taking it back and swapping for a v1.

nah, i cant take it back, i had to splice the fan power wires with a molex connector :X
I've got a visiontek XTasy 9600 non-pro . apperently they used a custom PCB that is totally incompatible, like the ram is spaced oddly, caps in the way, etc.

That is both weird and unlucky.

On the other hand you really should have checked it fitted before you started messing with the wires.

There, I fired off an email to arctic-cooling about how the ATi Silencer 2 doesn't appear to fit on the stock PCB layout (after looking at pictures of Sapphire's 9600, rosewills, etc). I'll post their reply when i get it.
