I'm using a dinosaur 770 board(4phase) currently and newer better boards(970) are like $75 ish right now.

Any suggestions ? I would like to have at least 1 pci slot for my audio card.

The idea is when I upgrade to whatever AMD comes out with in a few months I'll just give my brother this system. Hopefully with a better board and nice OC.

Been eyeing this board for now... 8 phase I believe

That looks like an 8+2 phase setup.
Considering it supports AMD's 220W chips, an 83xx should not only run well but be able to be overclocked a good bit as well. :toast:

The ASUS 970 Pro Gaming Aura is a 7+1 VRM. Really nice board for the price. My personal favorite 990FX mobo right now is the Gigabyte 990FX G1 Gaming. It's a 4+1 doubled up to be a 8+2. It uses an IR3564 voltage controller and 30A and 40A(at 125C) Renesas MOSFETs for the VRM. I like the Gigabyte board the most because it has a POST code and on-board buttons.

I got that Board, Can't even push my Phenom II X6 1100T to 4.0GHz without tripping the vrm protection (3.8GHZ is max stable) MY crosshair III formula would do 4.2GHz...

I'm just now testing 4 ghz stable with 1.496v and 80mm fan blowing though vrms temp is 53c max is the hottest they get for me.

It's a good board imho. Just keep the vrm really cool. Also, turn off cpu protection in the oc menu to avoid issues.

I have a fan over the VRM heatsink, just got scared because I have seen some reports of people blowing their VRMs when they turn off the protection... Gonna investigate further.

What do you use to check the temps? I'm on HWiNFO64.

I use CPUID HWMonitor

TMPIN 0 - CPU
TMPIN 1 - VRM
TMPIN 2 - Northbridge

Dont be scared as the fans wont let anything blow . I already stressed tested for many days. Did lots of research as well.

cooling might be a must on the msi board, also if possible adapt or clinck a fan directly blowing on VRM's and mosfets, couse the heat there is real, a full block could be the best investment, but im not sure if there is one for it!
