Hi Guys. Im wondering if anyone has had any luck with this combo. My 970A G43 died and I offered my FX 8300 to a friend of mine who has a simalar board, a 970A G45. It didnt post so I flashed with the V2.8 bios thinking it would solve the issue after making sure Win 10 was installed. Cleared CMOS with the Phenom 840 still installed and loaded optimized defaults. Cleared CMOS again and tried with the FX but still no post. Ive tried single sticks of ram in various slots with no luck. I exchanged the stock cooler for a 212 led, but still no post. Finally I connected my Antec TPC 750W to the build, cleared CMOS again, and moved single stick of ram around but still no post. Popped the Phenom back in and it booted instantly after tapping F1 to run setup and loading optimized deadults. At this point I have to assume that the CPU is dead? Unless anyone has any suggestions?
Tapping numlock does nothing l, all fans spin and 4 Blue lights are on indicating 4 phase mode. Unfortunately i dont have a MB speaker to listen to beeps.
Specs
Phenom II 840
970A G45 Mobo
Asus R7 260X 1GB
Superchannel S550 PSU
(Trash PSU, was planning on immediately downclocking to 3Ghz x 8)
2 x 2GB 1333mhz (1 Patriot and 1 Corsair)
1x4GB 1333mhz Corsair
640GB Seagate Momentus HDD

Edit: I honestly didnt test the 970A G43 with another CPU when that build failed to post, I assumed it had died because of the well known VRM issues and i was only running CPU at 3.6GHz locked at 1.25V.

Sounds like it's probably killed the cpu then, sometimes when a vrm fails it will allow the full 12v to the chip killing it instantly, probably what happened here :(

RIP fx-8300

Thanks guys makes sense, board had no protections. Im actually so glad that i opted to not replace the board. Sad for my friend though that GPU is surprisingly very capable of gaming regardless of 1GB Vram. This Phenom 840 is a terrible CPU though. I had fond memories of a Phenom 940 (DDR2) which outperformed my C2Q Q9400 in the past, but this one just stutters for no reason and sits at 100% usage when doing anything remotely demanding.
