980 ti and psu

Hi,
So I can get my hands on a g1 gaming 980ti almost for free (long story).
Thing is , I'm wondering regarding my PSU, whether its enough.
Important to say, I do plan to oc it, and allow it to run at its full 140% power target. I know it'll rarely see it, if at all, but still I prefer to know I have enough horsepower to allow it to run safely.
I'm running also a ryzen 5 1600 @1.385-1.4v, 2x8 gigs @1.35v, 1 ssd and one HDD and 6 120mm fans . I tried to check with the common calculators, but it doesn't take into account the extra 40% power target on the g1 980ti. I know with stock it should be fine, but I don't want to leave it at stock...

My current psu is seasonic s12II 620w 80+bronze (its a tire 2 PSU, so its great).
Will it be enough to run my system with an over clocked g1 980ti? Or I better couple a new PSU to that?

You should be fine. Id expect on full tilt (w/140% power limit) running both 100% (stress testing, not gaming) you may reach 500W or so.

...and cue the 'needs moar brigade' that diseases the forum!

Its going to be kind of close with the overclocks, I would go bigger as I fall into that line of thought that bigger is better and in this case cutting the cords close!

I ran an overclocked 6 core xeon with an overclocked R9 290X on a 7 year old TX650, no problems whatsoever, so you should be fine.

I think the tier list needs updating and most tier lists are junk to begin with...

Why would you say this? A quality PSU won't suddenly turn to a shitty one within 2-3 years.

They give a novice a generally good idea what is or what isn't a hunk of junk... they have value. Updated ones more so than older, but still... its helpful for those that don't know the proper resources for quality PSU reviews.

It's a fine PSU but the platform is getting a bit old. If it's a tier two on a list the list either has a huge tier one section or is done by a Seasonic fan boy (and I have owned and currently do own a Seasonic PSU).

Pretty much the only tier list I have seen that is takes everything into account for grading a PSU into a tier but may be dated a bit since I don't think jonnyguru updates it anymore

I generally saw a consensus regarding this one that for a limited budget, its among the better ones you can buy.

The tier list is based allot off JonnyGuru

They give the S12-II Seasonic bronze a 9.7 Tier 2
They give the Silverstone Strider Platinum 750w a 8.1 Tier 3

The list is now 2 years old so no longer apply, but JonnyGuru does pretty good reviews

like a said it's a fine PSU especially if you can get a good price on it. The tom's list is awful and is constantly ridiculed on the jonnyguru forum (although the reviewer for tom's PSU is top notch and does reviews for tpu as well). The guy who does Tom's list (has some dumb handle like skylark47 or something like that) tried posting on the jonnyguru forum and was basically chased off. He constantly pushes Superflower and seasonic OEM PSU (regardless of review) and despises anything by corsair not made by seasonic.

I was worried mostly due to two things:
1.you see that on some 980ti boxes it says you better have 600w psu. I have only 620 and my CPU is overclocked, ram also, so I was afraid I'm walking on a thin line here.

2. I saw on some reviews its peak power consumption can surpass 300w, and that's just the card, so it also made me wonder whether my current one is enough.

Those recommendations are for crappy PSUs. I had a XFX TS 430W (Seasonic made) and Radeon R9 290, and there was not a single problem.
