So i was playing a relaxing Sunday afternoon game of Wargame ALB campaign and after about 45 minutes the screen goes black. I had to do a reset of the system to get in working again, all was fine until i got in to Windows. The moment it loaded i got the same black screen, "no DisplayPort input" displayed and the monitor went to standby.

Got into safe mode all was fine, uninstalled nVidia drivers ran DriverSweeper and CCleaner, uninstalled MSI Afterburner and overclock, booted up into Windows. Tried to install drivers the same thing happened, black screen no input. It went like that for about 2 frustrating hours.
So i decided to roll back to a system image i made about a month ago, all is working fine now, even played about 2 hours of Prey.

Now my question is, WTF happened ? i dont want to loadup Wargame ALB again, of fear i will end up with the same problem. Is my card going to die ? i tested it like i said above with Prey maxed out in 1440p, temps are below 70ºC about 65 in average with an ambient of about 30ºC.

I went through something similar to this when I updated my version of Windows , it seems that for some reason sometimes Win 10 simply doesn't want to get along with Nvidia drivers. No idea what exactly is going on though.

It might be worth an analysis of what exactly you've installed or changed (willingly or unwillingly) in the weeks prior to that black screening. Including mandatory Windows updates, because they did produce some funny business on Pascal in the past and your rollback fixed things.

At this point I wouldn't really suspect the card.

Nothing major comes to mind, Windows might have updated itself and i had the second to last WHQL drivers installed.

I will keep this Windows image just in case, but the issue is weird, never experienced something like it before.

It happened again in DIRT Rally, but it was ok after i rebooted. Temps, voltges are ok, changed the pcix slot, BIOS reset. I will try Windows 7 if all else fails. But this a really bad time for a GPU to die.

The behaviour is different now then. Can still be a dying card but... Really not a given yet. Went back to stock clocks yet? And, moving on, stock clocks + increased power target?

Also, check your warranty period, if its close to end, RMA yesterday just to have it registered as failing within warranty (or as close as possible to it ending). This will help you in the future if the card does die, bc it really shouldnt. GPUs are either DOA or they fail many, many years after...

I`m not the first owner so RMA is not an option. Last night it worked fine, i adjusted power target to 95% and vRAM to -25 Mhz. I read that might be issues with a Windows 10 update and nVidia drivers. I have to test it further, in the weekend.

I tested it again in Wargame ALB the result was the same, the monitor went dead, rebooted, connected another monitor i had for backup this time on HDMI(i use DP normally ) same issue.
Formated the SSD and a freshly installed Windows 10x 64. Installed the drivers and launched the cursed game, still have the problem, screen goes to standby, no input signal ...
The computer si functional, i can hear the game running, but no video output, it might be some referesh rate issue, but i tried 60, 120 and 144Hz the same.

So i stayed up to 2 AM trying to fix it, finally got to install Windows 7 x64, same problem as soon as i install the drivers, on reboot it passes the Windows load screen but i get a black screen, before it displays the logon screen.
The only thing i did not try is another PSU, but i suspect the card is with one foot in the virtual grave.
Video of the problem.

Yep drivers from 2015(358.xxx from the board launch period), 2016 and the latest WHQL.
