980ti @ 1400mhz+ easily beats max oc'ed 1070gtx @2000- 2050mhz (pascall freq. wall), and all 980ti do that without a problem. Especially custom cooled like that evga classy..

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Nvidi...sts/GTX-1070-Benchmarks-Test-Preis-1196360/2/

My zotac amp omega boosts out of the box at 1418mhz and never goes over 70c and beats all 1070, e.g. tombraider up to 15fps diff on avg..
1070 is fast but not enough when oc'ed, 980ti can come closer to 1080gtx then 1070, imo that extra 2gb vram wont save it, by the time it starts to matter it will be too slow anyway.

I can bet my ass that FastSync could be possible even on Fermi cards as well, it's just that NVIDIA does not bother with updating drivers for old stuff and gimping it anyway...
It is not gimping. They just stop optimizing for Fermi which makes perfect sense since Nvidia focuses on their new card architecture.
Once Volta comes around, I can just see it. People crying gimping again.
They are a business. Wasting money and time on old products is not going to make them money.

What you show in that graph is how GTX980 Ti with 1430 MHz boost clock beats default stock GTX1070 with 1683 MHz boost clock - which is even more unfair than my own GTX980 Ti Strix OC with 1317 MHz boost clock considerably beating GTX1070 Dual with 1721 MHz boost clock in every game, so no wonders here. I somehow doubt that an overclocked GTX980 Ti with 1430 MHz boost clock could beat an overclocked GTX1070 with 2000 MHz boost clock. Even i doubt that... Perhaps in the near future i will get a Strix GTX1070 and test this myself...

I'd say a 1070. More future proof, lower power, and in 2 years you can easily get another one for an SLi build and do so MUCH cheaper for a performance boost for another 2 years. The extra ram on the card too will help GREATLY in that textures are much larger as time is going on.

Hehe, talking about mine. :p I should do a re-run at 1550MHz. These puppies go higher. Or, bring my king card out that does over 1500MHz on air on stock BIOS.

I have three cards that all run over 1500 on the stock BIOS and on stock air?

This is a pair of classy's just in case the OP is still paying attention lol

Even if you throw three cards together in SLi they still pull of 1487 stacked on top of each other...

We're spoiled really. 77 C is fine for a GPU.

Gotta say that card looks in mint condition, not a bad purchase I'd say.

1080, why waste time? If that 980ti is 200 bucks then maybe I'd grab it. Honestly I'd go the 1070 over it. Neither card can do 1440p well, so who cares. The 980ti probably is faster at 1080.
If I upgrade it will be 1080 period, and for now a 2nd 970....

I am happy with the 980ti, i don't game much (like 10H per week) i do watch 4k movies on my 4KTV and for the price difference i payed (over the fury) it was a good deal...
For me a 1080 is useless because i don't even use my 980ti at full so why bother to get a better/pricey card...

lol, no doubt. Certainly some titles cant run on ultra, but most can...

But the general consensus across many enthusiast sites/forums is that the 1070 is a great 1440p card

I have three cards that all run over 1500 on the stock BIOS and on stock air?

This is a pair of classy's just in case the OP is still paying attention lol

Even if you throw three cards together in SLi they still pull of 1487 stacked on top of each other...

I need to do a SLI run before I take mine out. Right now though, Pent is going on. So all my computers are getting hammered at the moment.
Will find out if this 4.5GHz 5960X can survive two weeks of 24/7 loads.

Nice classys you got there. Mine are only ref cards with mod BIOS. Have to say, keep them cooled off and the cards fly.

Yep that's how 980tis work cool and fast lol. The gigabyte card in that batch is a faster card. The two classys can't quite run the ram speeds. The cores are a monster though.

Yeah, just like how my 780ti could crunch everything on 1080p two years ago, and this year I saw 30 fps at the same res.

Fast forward one year and 1070 won't cut it. Time will always destroy any statement on any card's performance being enough for any res. Games are built and scaled towards whats on the hardware market available to run the game, sometimes even subsidized by game developers to push a release together with a new GPU gen.
