Go 1070. It's newer technology, will have better support over time (driver and games) more memory and the extra features of Pascal, in particular, FastSync. Generally speaking, always go for the newer tech if possible, unless there's something really compelling about the older tech, such as a really cheap price and I meant really cheap, not just a bit cheaper like you normally see.

I've learned the best deals are on previous gen. Got my 980Ti when they announced 1080, and got my RX 480 when RX 580 was released. If you watch carefully you can pounce on a great deal. And neither card is so "old tech" that they will suddenly or even for the next year not be great at what they are used for.

I know, I was exaggerating for comic effect. However, he will miss out on FastSync though, which is a killer feature in my opinion

It was more to help a friend get a 1080ti... the r9 fury was sold for a good price and the 980ti was purchased with a little add-on cash, so no harm done to my wallet

P-640, i am not a selfish man.

I am doing this for exactly the likes of "stefanelis". I also do this because i feel it is unjust when some new product is considered better than the old one when not enough comparative testing has been done, or that testing has been done apples to oranges - and that is where i come. Testing this kind of stuff is my little hobby. I've had over 150 dedicated video cards to test over the span of 14 years that i had desktops (since my first ever Celeron with 128 kb cache with 256 MB DDR and with the POS FX 5200...).

And i am not even recommending him GTX980 Ti over GTX1070, since it's not that simple and straightforward which is better as there are quite a few factors to consider

I love my 980 Ti as it more than holds it own, especially pushing 1500Mhz.

Anyway both the 980 Ti and 1070 are great cards, can't go wrong either way.

FastSync can run on Maxwell cards. It is not locked to Pascal.

Ok that's great. Various other reports I'd seen over time always said it was a Pascal only feature.

I can bet my ass that FastSync could be possible even on Fermi cards as well, it's just that NVIDIA does not bother with updating drivers for old stuff and gimping it anyway...
