CrystalDiskMark is set to NVME mode, and this is the best I get for the Q1T1 test. Based on a review I found, it seems like it's lagging behind on that bottom row.

Some Specs:

9800X3D
DDR5-6000 CL28
MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk

The drive is brand new from best buy. I just did a fresh install of windows trying to chase away some other gremlins so everything should be clean. I also wiped the bios and started over to be on the safe side prior to the windows installation.

The CPU doesn't seem to be working terribly hard during the Q1T1 read and write tests either. I have turned on EXPO, PBO, ReBAR, High Performance Mode etc.

Almost forgot, here is the review I'm referencing:

Have you tried setting “NVMe” from the crystal disk mark settings.

Yes, and all of the other scores are really close to the ones shown in the review. It's just the RND4K Q1T1 Read and Write tests that are lower than expected.

Is this behavior exhibited on other drives?
Does this happen in other m.2 slots?
Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?
Have you verified the driver used? (You can do so with Anvil)

I have a WD SN850 I can test when I get home, it's got the old Windows install on it yet but it's nowhere near full.

I'm using Slot 1 since it is CPU driven, the link is PCIE 4 x 4 as expected when using the drive in question. I haven't tested the others yet.

The chipset drivers are fresh, I just did a clean install of W11 and I installed all the lastest chipset and motherboard drivers before connecting Ethernet.

I'll look into the driver verification, I did download Samsung Magician to check for firmware updates and it said it was up-to-date though.

Well, at least the 2023 scores look closer to mine on the Read test. My Write score is trailing the first source by 98.13 points and your top source by 64.58. Weird how much worse the 2022 test looks. Do you think the differences are motherboard dependent, or is there that much variance in these drives? The processor shouldn't be a huge bottleneck here, right? (9800X3D)

Oh NVM I just realized that the settings on that second test intentionally cherry picks some of the worst case (realistic) scenarios
