Well I got a Tagan BZ-600 back in April, all worked fine and dandy until I got my 4870 and it started whining when under load. Tested every component, swapped stuff out, ran it on an entirely different PC and still there was the whining when the graphics card was under load.

So on the 18th of July I shipped it off to Nanopoint (Tagans RMA department in the UK) and got a supposed brand new one back today. New serial number, no signs of repair or use, packaged up as if it was brand new.

Same issue, only worse. Constant whining, and gets worse under load.

The power delivery is still solid (can only check via BIOS, no tools to test this accurately) and it can run anything at full. Went back to stock, still happened. Swapped back to my 3870. Still happened.

So I've sent them an email back explaining the situation, but considering their entire silence throughout the RMA process (never even knew they'd received it) it isn't really a good sign I'll get a prompt response. I posted on their forums, but again, got no response last time.

Basically I'm just wondering what to do.

I was recommended Tagan by a friend who said they were solid, but 2 units now with the same issue, but my old apparently lesser quality Hiper can power everything (minus the 4870 - not enough connectors) just fine with no whining at all.

So, should I demand my money back from Nanopoint and get another PSU unit, if so, which one? I won't do modular with plastic plugs, seen too many melted to ever risk that, so non-modular is preferable.

Or should I just hope Nanopoint can give me a better unit this time around?

I would say its the molex that are having trouble delivering output but if you say it works with your Hiper, seems the Tagan power supply is the culprit.
My suggestion to you just send it back for a different power supply.

Tagan is strange you really have to do your work when buying a power supply from them. They are made by TOPOWER which makes fine power supplies for brands such as OCZ, Mushkin, and BFG. But also make some crappy one for companies like aerocool, raidmax, dynapower ect.. Could be that unit you have is not of good quality.
That's just my assumption though.

I know it's made by Topower, I was in fact recommended this PSU by a friend, wish I hadn't listened now.

I can see why you would say that, but I did nothing more than reconnect this PSU to the same places the Hiper was connected and I'm having this issue, and it's definately NOT the 12v lines that are powering the fans anyway. If I play a game depending on how much work is on the screen the whining gets worse (my fans always spin at full speed, I hate variable speed).
