Hi out there,
im starting this log because it could be interested for some people. I haven't found a lot of documentation on systems based on an Asus ProArt X670E board. Especially when using it with Linux.
As my first words already show i will have a bigger project in front. I'm transferring from Windows towards Linux. More specific MintLinux in the cinnnamon flavor. My actual pc is a AMD Ryzen system built in 2019. It hat a Ryzen 3800x as a prozessor and a Sapphire pulse 5700xt as a graphics card. aside the 32GB consists of 4 8GB 3600MHz Ram it also has a PCIe 4.0 SSD from Sabrent, The CPU is watercooled by a custom build. Cinebench 23 tells me 1.321 SC and 12.589 MC Points. But all of that doesn't work very fast for me. I did program a lot inside Excel and got a quite complicated Workbook. Also i do scan and process 3D Modells fpr 3D Printing. At all of those tasks i have to wait a lot. A full recalc of my primary Excel workbook takes around 15 minutes. You don't want to know how long 3D Modelling can take.
So i decided to "upgrade my system". In detail it will become a full new build at first. Later i might upgrade the cooling to a full custom loop. But also there i will keep and reuse the Pump and possibly the cpu-cooler. I'm running this system with 2 32" WQHD (2560x1440) monitors. Also i use to change my keyboard depending what i want to do. Sometimes i use my Cherry stram (wireless) and sometimes my Logitech MX Keys. As Mouse I use a MX Mouse 3 and also a MX Ergo Trackball.
I started sourcing last month and got an anides AI-Crystal XL Case for my build. It is capable to integrate my BluRay-Burner. Also there is space for 6 140mm fans and additionaly 9 120mm fans. There will be a lot of airflow inside to cool down all the components. I will have to construct and print different parts for the case so that everything vill be integrated. All Prints are made with Anycubic ABS-Alike Resin on my Elegoo Saturn 2 printer. The system on it's own is not fully defined yet. I got the Case and also the mainboard. Now i'm on sourcing all the cooling equipment and the PSU. I estimate the end of the sourcing phase in November. But till then i will have to decide i.e. which GFX card i will use.
Right now i bought/own (last standings):
As a next stepp i will have to buy an apropriate PSU. Different available calculators tells me that my Seasonic 850W PSU is not strong enough. I will need more power. At least 900W are suggested. At this build i will prefer a bequiet PSU. If it will be delivering 1.000W or 1.200watts is still not defined. But i think it will be the best to go for the 1.2kW version anyway. If the choosen AiO will have problems to cool the cpu i have enough backup for a more complex custom cooling loop.
At least this workstation is not intended to play. I have only a license for American and also european truck simulator and for shorter timeframes (when waiting for a process to be finished) i use to play sudoku.I hope that some will enjoy this build log and the upcoming results. If some will critisize my choosen parts, just do it. I'm always open and do not belong to a special marque.
Edit 05/29/2023:
There will be quite a lot of RGB components on this build. Beside the fans also two stripes on the left and right. When using the AiO the pump also is enlighted. I planned to have a kind of status at the stripes. Divided into at least two parts. The upper on should only signal the on/off state whilst the lower was intended to show the CPU Temperature by color. At windows the AquaComputer Farbwerk360 controllers can handle that with ease. But as i also use linux i lost. AquaComputers AquaSuite only runs at Windows.. They don't suport Linux. Bad Software-Engineering. The adopt only Microsoft Dotnet. If they would belong to the open source alternative Mono it would be possible easily. Without a plus on work. So in the last the stripes all over will only signal that the machine is running. For a test i aso include a remote on/off switch. I don't know where to place it exactly. My next Build will hang on a wall. I cannot reach that position at the wall easily so then i will need that switch. Now i test it if it is trustworthy. The provided fans will be in Red. The pump will be in white. No other gimmicks. Just one color.
The next order concentrates on Power. I think about ordering a new PSU and additional things to spread the prower to the different items:
The PSu including the additional cable will guarantee a proper power supply with either an AMD 6950XT or a NVIDIA 4070TI. I also thought about a (used) NVidia Quadro A4000 as an option. As i still don't know for which i will go on hunt I have to take care about all of them. The needed Power will be in the range of 850 to 900W. I could also get a 1000W PSU. But as the difference to the selected 1200W PSU is real low i decided to get the bidder one.
In this build a total of 15 fans will be mounted. As i already explained before i cannot use my Quadro Fan controller because of the lack od Aquacomputer to get basic values from the board without using a service. So the full cooling system has to be controlled by the board. The board has all over 6 PWM-headers for fans. Those ones will be used. The CPU Fan Header will control the 3 140mm radiator fans. The basic value is the Water Temperature at the loop. As hot the water gets as fanst the fans have to work. The AIO Pump is controlled by the CPU Temperature. As hot the CPU gets as high the flow has to be to reduce this heat. The rest of the fans will be controlled by the temperature of the VCH/PCH/M.2 Temperature. I didn't defind this use of the last Temperature yet as it will be have to be defined at tests. The Board has the ability to use one external temperature sensor. I will use the Water temperatur on this as i need that value for the pump.
