I'd really like to have a mic for playing CS:S/TF2/Gmod etc. I have a POS one that sits on my desk, but since it's a POS people can't really hear me. I DO NOT want a headset. If there isn't just a plain mic that I can use then I'd rather just continue only being able to type.

Well I just bought the Everglide S500 (not personal lubricant according to woot.com :p) head phone and the mic is a clip on. It's physically detached from the headset. So if you don't want to use the headset, you can just plug the mic into your comp. It's $25 shipped. Or just look for one on newegg. They have tons.

I've had this one a few months now and it's been sweet.

http://www.audio-technica.com/cgi-bin/product_search/gen/gen.pl

Search for ATR20 ( which is the model number )

Hopfully the pic will keep working.

Seems like they do not like linking.

Had enough of those others making your voice narrow and sharp and what ever. and another + for this one people don't hear background noises as it's Cardioid....

EDIT: OOps mine was $25 from RS.

How about one of those bluetooth ear thingies?

And why no headset if I may ask?
I've got almost a full Klipsch 5.1 setup and that's so much more fun to use. Plus my ears don't get hot using speakers. In addition to that, I've already spent a good deal on Sennheiser HD280s too.

hv43082, that Everglide mic looks like a pretty good candidate.

erocker, as much as I'd like a mic of that quality, that's more than I have to spend right now.

I completely understand, but you get my point.:) Pretty much any "standard" cheap vocal mic you can pick up from a music store would be better than and desktop mic sold for PC's, though I'm sure there are rare exceptions. I used this cheap "Bob Barker" style desktop PC mic and got nothing but complaints. I now use my Shure 57b and people can't stop saying how sexy my voice is.:ohwell:

Lol yeah I have the same type of Bob Barker mic. Like the kind that came with PCs in 1996. What do you think about the one Sasqui suggested? I am willing to spend a little more than that (probably not more than $30).

How close do you have to be to that mic, sneekypeet?

I have a headset with a mic on it, but I turn the headset off so I can still use my speakers for my computer. Then I just put the headset around my neck and use the mic.

Would that work for you?
