eidairaman1 : yes, things are more expensive in here sadly.

so how much of an improvement would be comparing a heavy clocked 460 to my overclocked 9800gtx+?

like how many percent improvement?

how is it no accurate

object A is less then < object B

remember the gator eats the bigger prize

that would mean 460 is less then < 5850

460 overclocked is = to a stock 5850

460 overclocked is less then < 5850 overclocked

5850 overclocked is greater then > a 5870 stock

460 1gb's run for what $235 USD? The 5850 can be had on newegg for the difference of $15. Can't dispute that. With any amount of OC (unless you are benching on a golden model) I'm confident that 5850 is still faster.

It isn't accurate because you never mentioned what kind of OC these cards have. Not all cards are guaranteed to reach a certain frequency.

When u start overclocking you're not going to get an exact percentage because every board overclocks differently, meaning some will go higher than others overall. If u look at gaming checks here u notice that the most amt of frames u could get is like 5-10 and nothing more, overclocking doesn't bring miracles like everyone suggests it does. Also how is the cooling at your house?

No, not according to reviews. But a minor overclock on the 5850 will void that.

ive yet to see a SINGLE 5850 not hit stock 5870 clocks at STOCK voltage on any model and at same clocks a 5850 closes the gap to 1% difference if lucky many hit 900 core maybe slightly higher with stock volts on a 5850

a 5850 core is the exact same core on a 5870 with some things laser cut meaning they can both handle the same volts and top out in the same core range.

eidairaman1: well its cold in here now, so in my room sometimes i have to turn on the oil heater. why?

so 35% increase over my 9800gtx+ with a 460 and 45% increase with 5850?

is it good improvement?

crazyeyesreaper: if im buying the 5850, i will buy the HIS version from here, http://www.impc.co.nz/products/al_his-5850-1gbd5-v2.html

The 5850 is at least twice as fast as the 9800GTX+ because my old GTX 280 was more like 43-45% when I benched it.

and also how is the eye candy or effects that u can gain from having Nvidia card which utilizes the CUDA that Just Cause 2 uses for Bokeh Filter and Water Simulation. any large differences?

IronRuler: so u mean 5850 is like 50% faster than a 9800gtx+????

thats a large gap.

Since nVidia is being so gung-ho about being the only ones with PhysX, developers are either using it sparingly or not at all, so don't let it be a deciding factor.

You may want your room cool throughout during overclocking.

as i said 14 games that use hardware physx aka needing an nvidia gpu zzzzzz did i mention of those 14 2 were aegia PPU games so thats down to 12 since cpu physx easily handled them batman AA well they removed stuff in the PC version made it Physx only while the consoles could still do it software so thats 11 games left Cryostasis with 3 gtx 280s still didnt maintain 60fps now thats 10 unreal tournament 3 map pack = 9 Sacred2 swirling leaves hurray thats down to 8 games anyway you get the idea

yea and physx can easily run on your 9800gtx+ since physx uses next to nothing on the gpu in terms of intensity the molex to 6 pin would be fine and the entire making it work thing well you ARE on TPU and theres alot of users the moderators included that run 2 ati gpus and 1 nvidia for physx in those few games among other things. Long as your on Windows 7 its pretty much fine

Reason why NV started pushing physx and CUDA is to blind the fact that SLI started to slow down because no one was buying into it anymore, Crossfire Scaling was getting better and fact that Crossfire is easier to implement than SLI is.

Physx is marketing. Very few games use the feature and less will. Please don't let it influence your decision.

crazyeyesreaper: so it doesnt matter if i connect only 1 6 pin power connector to my 9800gtx+ instead of 2?

because it requires 2, but it doesnt matter if i want to use it as physix? does it hurt the card or system???

I've made up my mind... Since you are currently using a Nvidia card, you should stick with them. It's what you know and what you are used to and I'm confident you will be very pleased with the GTX 460. It will be a noticable difference to what you are using now and you will feel that it has been money well spent.

No. You need to use two if there are two connectors.

hes missing the point erocker theres a MOLEX to PCIe power connector adaptor as has been mentioned 2 or 3 times now

physx puts little strain on a gpu so it will never use full power so a 5850 + 9800gtx would run fine on his silverstone strider 500+ watt

but i agree just go with the 460 i linked around 4-5 reviews you should be able to make up your mind

if ur powersupply can provide the proper wattage, voltage, and amperage needed to run 2 plugs on a card then it shouldnt matter, the second PCI E connector is there to provide additional juice, but some cards have been known to tell u to plug in the second power connector upon boot, so I suggest following the directions of the vid card manual. Also cards that have a 8pin power connector the 2 additional pins are Ground Wires, which I think you could fabricate yourself and attach to the chassis itself or even the PSU chassis.

^ what he said but a simple molex to 6 pin or 2 molex to 6 pin will solve the issue as physx will never load that gpu id say 15% max usage of that gtx if used only for physx
