The PC hardware market is getting really ridiculous. Im looking at prices for the 2080 strix and just for the card it's $869. Ok. That's fine. Taxes make it $930. What? You kidding me?

Then I go and look at the Asus Strix (and some other non Asus cards) and the 1080ti's are just as much if not more expensive than a 2080Ti or you straight up cant find one brand new.

I need a new GPU but not this badly. Why is it so hard to find a 1080Ti STRIX card that is under $1000? Bitcoin isnt the reason for the high prices anymore.

The reason for the high prices is completely due to the lack of any serious competition from AMD. Until they get their act together like they did for CPUs and start competing properly head-on, NVIDIA and retailers can afford to take the piss.

This annoys the hell out of me, too. For the last few generations I'd been buying the top end cards, eg GTX 580, GTX 780 Ti and GTX 1080 (before the Ti came out) each time with those cards becoming more expensive. Now the 2080 Ti's price is stratospheric and completely ridiculous. I can appreciate that some price inflation could occur if the GPU is expensive to make with lowish yields, but at well over a grand for one is ridiculous and has priced it out of my reach, which has really annoyed me.

You have to options:

1 - Wait till prices drops ( If )
2 - Get a loan

Joke aside

GPU's prices went up when Mining went Crazy since then they haven't change that much and i don't see it will be any better.

Out of topic:

Maybe you should change the yellow color;)

Supply and demand. ASUS likely stopped production of their 1080Ti and switched to the 2080/2080Ti. So now the few new ones that are still out in the wild are getting jacked up in price to try to capitalize on the people desperate for that one particular card.

Taxes make it $930. What? You kidding me?

That's how sales tax works, I'm not seeing the issue here.

Are you complaining about taxes or inflated GPU prices? Snag a used 1080 Ti for $500-$600 on fleabay. I went through two used 290x's after the first mining craze, they worked perfectly.

Well nvidia is trying to sell the 20 series, the only way to make them look worth it is if the 10 series took a price hike.

Well, it's the fool proof method, they've got a poor value 20 series lineup to sell and the 1080 ti has more value than ever, only way to sell new now if manufacturers hogged cards back.

I have been on the hunt for a msi 1070 myself and I know your pain...I wanted it new but at this point its either used or wait for nvidia to trip over themselves when the market crashes on their arrogant heads due to mining fallout or shortcomings of the rtx tech in real world games

Except nVidia didn't raise the price of the 10 series, the MSRPs are all still the same. However, production has stopped and supply is drying up. I guarantee you all the production capability that was producing 1070/1080/1080Ti are now all dedicated to producing the 2070/2080/2080Ti. That is just how the industry works. You only have so much production capability, and you aren't going to waste it on old cards that have been replaced in the product stack.

If you really want a card from the last generation, I suggest you grab one of the ones that are still out there at a reasonable price, because they won't be there for long.

There's a few Zotac 1080Tis on Newegg for $700, and a Gigabyte one on sale for the next 4 hours at $680. Why must it be an ASUS Strix?

The mining boom late last year inflated the price of gpu's for a few months, til the difficulty rose enough, and the price of the coins dropped so much, that it was no longer economical to mine.

This left a glutton of 1060's, 1070's and 1080's in the market, used and new. And because AMD doesn't have something to go against the top nvidia cards, nvidia thought it would be wise to instead of lowering old generation prices, and slotting in the new cards, they just slotted them in without the price lowerings we are use too.

In effect, they are trying to sell all the 1060's they still have. There is even a 'new' version of the 1060 coming in now. Faster ram, same chip. Eventually they will sell the bulk of their pascal cards, and price will move down once AMD releases their next card. Til then, we are all stuck in nvidia price hike land.

It looks like I'll be stuck with my Gigabyte 11Gb 1080 Ti WB Extreme for some time. There's quite a few available here in Oz for anything from AU$1,300.00 to $1,400.00.

When I bought mine, I paid AU $1,599.00.

Now I look at my suppliers and they have the GTX 2018 Ti @ AU $2,100.00 to $2,200.00 = and they're all marked as Sold Out = WHAT A JOKE !!!!

With the current 20% off sale, a few sellers have the gigabyte 1080ti wb them for $1135.20 (0.8 x 1419). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/410705

I also saw a gigabyte one with the rad attached going for I think 1150 or so, when futu and such have their 20% off tech sales.

The reason for the high prices is completely due to the lack of any serious competition from AMD.

Prices are mostly dictated by consumers and their wallet.

This notion that competition drives prices down it's just not true, never has been. Look at Intel, did you see any price drop ever since Zen hit market ? I didn't, moreover with every new launch since then their consumer flagships got more expensive. Or take the smartphone industry, the competition there is absurdly high, yet what do you know, 1000$ phones are a thing. What competition really does as seen with Intel, is that it drives technological advancement mostly.

You seriously think there is some magic force that would prevent a future competing product from AMD to not be priced at 1200$ a well ? If these new cards sell well, then get ready because that's going to become the new standard price for flagships for a long time, no matter what AMD does. That's all that matters to Nvidia, how many cards they sell and for how much.

Thats interesting since Vega 64 as is with newest drivers competes pretty much to 1080. So no real performance increase?

the rumor said price point would be $250 for a 1080 performance Navi 7nm high end. so the point is pricing and performance ratio i guess. but yeah if you want high end 4k gaming 2080 ti is prob only option for next 2-3 years. maybe longer, since Nvidia truly is a monopoly now, people who like high end gaming can't wait around forever, and we already been waiting around forever for competition
